Have you ever noticed that we
often put things together in groups
of three. For example, when we
speak of time we refer to the past,
the present, and the future. When
analyzing nature, we speak of plants,
animals and minerals. Concerning
ourselves we say that we consist of
heart, mind and soul. On July 4 we
will salute the red, white and blue.
When thinking of our communities
we conceive of our neighborhood,
our city and our nation. Normally,
when speaking of a family we think in
terms of man, woman and child. In
each of the above examples all three
parts work together. They do not
have their fulfillment alone. All the
above examples are relationships
that work together for the good.

CHRIST OUR KING COMMUNITY CHURCH
invites you to hear
The Ministerial Alliance of Allen is
encouraging everyone to help sup-
port the Allen Community Outreach.
Churches who are members of the
Alliance are joining together to take
a special offering designated for the
ACO. The first joint summer
worship service will be held June 24,
6:30 p.m., at the First Presbyterian
Church of Allen. The offering re-
ceived that night will be set aside for
Allen Community Outreach.
This summer there will also be
two fund raisers: Summerfest and a
garage sale. Personal donations
made directly to Allen Community
Outreach are being accepted as well.
The goal is $20,000.
An example of the community
commitment of the ACO is the
Christmas Sponsorship Program in
which qualified families receive
Christmas presents. This commit-
ment can also be seen, as well as
tasted, when families gather around

By THE REV. BEN G. HUBERT
In a recent meeting with the Min-
isterial Alliance of Allen, Stacy
Brown, director of Allen Community
Outreach, reported her organization
was. in need of $20,000 in order to
continue existing programs.
The reason tor the need is a
change in Allen Community Out-
reach’s funding process. According
to Brown, the people of Allen, Lucas
and Fairview are now responsible
for raising 20 percent of the yearly
budget. Before, they were responsi-
ble for only 5 percent of the yearly
budget.
Brown’s concern for the budget
quickly became the concern of the
Alliance. In partnership with ACO,
the Ministerial Alliance is able to
have a food bank and a clothes
closet. The ACO is also able to give
financial assistance in ways churches
cannot.

Assistance is provided by ACO for
those people needing help with rent,
utility bills, food, clothing, and other
basic human needs, such as medical
and dental care. Because of the
generosity of local physicians, de-
ntists, and pharmacists, such medic-
al needs are being met.
Allen Community Outreach also
offers a job bank. This service pro-
vides career counseling, interview
skills workshops, resume writing,
and job placement, enabling people
to help themselves.
From January through May, Allen
Community Outreach has been con-
tacted by 3650 people. The orga-
nization has been serving the com-
munities of Allen, Lucas and Fair-

A relationship consists of at least
two parts or persons and when it
extends itself it includes a third. This
is most obvious in the human family,
where the love of husband and wife
expresses itself in their children.
Even single people are challenged to
share themselves somewhat dif-
ferently but nonetheless lovingly.
Even the traditional Christian con-
cept of God speaks of a relationship
of three: Father, Son and Holy Spir-
it. We cannot really understand
something so mysterious as the na-
ture of God. However, we can see
from the idea of the Trinity that God
exists as a type of divine community
of love. In fact, Scripture says in the
letters of John that “God is love.”
Our beliefs challenge us to action.
Our belief that God is loving and ex-
ists in community, calls us to realize
that we also must try to create loving
relationships in the community
around us. Christ told his disciples
“Be perfect as your heavenly Father
is perfect,” this is a calling to love
the way God loves, as best we can.
We are simply to build a community
that is based on loving relationships;
this belief is not just an idea, it is
very practical.
