I am writing to express my
dismay and disappointment at
the behavior of many of the pa-
rents at the Reed Elementary
Christmas Pageant on Monday
night. The cafetorium was pack-
ed, and the crowd spilled out into
the hallway. My family was
among those who could not get
into the cafetorium, either sit-
ting or standing. We stood near
the doorway, hoping to catch a
glimpse of our child, and tried to
listen to the program: The doors
were left open for some ventila-
tion in the stifling cafetorium,
and to allow those in the hallway
to hear the program. I was
appalled at the inconsiderate be-
havicr exhibited bv many of the
parents in the hallway. Several
people stood just inside the
doorway and carried on loud
conversations, oblivious to the
program going on only a few feet
away. These people created a
disturbance for the children
trying to sing and prevented
people inside the cafetorium and
in the hallway from hearing the
children. I understand that the
parents in the hallway may have
been disappointed at the limited
seating and standing room in the
cafetorium. but that is no excuse
for rude and inconsiderate con-
versation. To those parents:
I'he next time your children ex
hibit similar behavior, consider
the example you set lor them.
