Worthwhile Club Has
Business Meeting
The Worthwhile home demonstra-
tion club met with Mrs. E. L. Osgood
as hostess at her home last week.
Roll call was answered with reports
of home work done by the various
members. Mrs. A. W. Arnett, pre-
sided at the business session. At the
close of the afternoon dainty re-
freshments were served to Mrs. Ar-
nett, Mrs. H. C. Card, Mrs. O. D.
Card,. Mrs. C. S. Osborn, Mrs. Cecil
Ferguson, Mrs. Storey, Mrs. B. Ut-
ter, and Mrs. H. B. Gilmore. The
club will meet on Thursday, July 3
with Mrs. H. C. Card as hostess.

Miss Gertie Whitehurst, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Masterson M. White-
hurst of Hearne, became the bride of
Thomas Floyd Langford of this city,
son of Mr. and Mrs-. T.F. Langford,
at a beautiful church wedding which
took place at the First Methodist
church of Hearne Friday evening at
7:30 o’clock.
The Rev. J. M. Gordon of Galves-
ton, former pastor of the Hearne
church’was assisted by Dr. E. W.
Solomon, present pastor, in perform-
ing the impressive ceremony.
Mrs. W. A. McNeel of Hearne
played the processional and reces-
sional and also acted as accompa-
nist for a solo “At Dawning”—Cad-
Recreational Club Has
Dance at Legion Hall
The Recreational club, newly or-
ganized group, held its first social af-
fair in form of a dance at the Ameri-
can Legion club house in Queen City
Annex last week. At a short bus-
ness session MrsrMurray Howze was
elected vice-president of the organiz-
ation. At the close of a most de-
lightful evening spent in dancing,
delicious refreshments were served.

Lake' Couch of Weslaco accompa-
nied Mr. Langford as best man.
Following the ceremony the bride
' and groom left on a honeymoon to
be spent in Colorado, New Mexico
and Arizona. They will be at home
in Mercedes July 10.
- Miss Whitehurst has been head
of the music department of the
Stephen F. Austin school in Wes-
laco for the past several years. In
1927 she was graduated from South-
western University at Georgetown
where she was a member of the Al-
pha Delta Pi fraternity. Since com-,
ing to the Valley she has made a
host of friends in Weslaco and other
Valley towns.
Mr. Langford is a graduate of the
local high school and was graduat-
ed from University of Texas at Aus-
tin in 1927. He received a B. A.
degree from that school. For the
past two and a half years he has
been employed by the Hidalgo Coun-
ty State Bank of this city where
he is now assistant cashier. Mr.
Langford is well known and has
many friends in all parts of the Val-
ley.

Sunday School Class
Mrs. M. C. Unzicker of Elsa enter-
tained the children of her Sunday
School class of the Presbyterian
church in that town with a picnic at
the Englemann Gardens Thursday
afternoon. The little folks greatly
enjoyed the afternoon playing games
following which dainty refreshments
were served. Those present were
Peggy Jo Moore, Leonard H. Hama,
Betty, Bobby and Niama Luck, Ken-
nie and Donnie Self, Evelyn Lee
Snyder, Neal Galloway, and Dorothy
and Marjorie Miller.

Sullivan, are planning to leave to-
morrow for Monterrey, Mexico,
where they will spend several days.
From there Mrs. Dunson will accom-
pany her guests to their home in
Laurel, Miss, where she will spend

Hall Tonight at 8
Final arrangements were, complet-
ed for the benefit bridge which is to
be given at the Elks Hall tonight at
8 o’clock by the Episcopal Guild and
the Bishop’s committee, at a meet-
ing of representatives of those or-
ganizations held at the parish house
Tuesday afternoon. Following the
business session a social hour was
enjoyed. Those present were Dea-
coness Bickford, Mrs. Florence Kalb-
fleisch, Mrs. C. C. Lockett and Mrs.
Helen Symons of the Guild and H. E.
Hager representing the Bishop’s
committee.

Circles Have Bible
Study Meetings Tuesday
The three circles of the Presby-
terian Woman’s Auxiliary met for
Bible study on the book of Romans
Tuesday afternoon. The-Ruth circle
met with Mrs. J. S. McNeil as hos-
tess at her home. The hostess led
the Bible study. Members present
were Mrs. F. O. Underhill, Mrs. Ed
Yates, Miss Elizabeth Underhill,
Mrs. M. Agnew, Mrs. J. Schmitter,
Mrs. W. W. De Cell, Mrs. John
Rouse, Mrs. J. R. Barry.
Mrs. William Lick was hostess to
the Mary circle at her home. Mrs. J.
Pace had charge of the study pro-
gram. . Miss Ella Hesse, of San An-
tonio, who is supervising the daily
vacation Bible school sponsored by
the local First Presbyterian church
was a guest of this circle. Members
