Students Thursday
The Community Center was a
lively place Thursday evening
when a fun night was enjoyed by
junior high and high schgol stu-
dents. Girl Scout Troops 1 and 2
were hostesses and $58 was
turned over to the March of
Dimes fund.
The building, cold drinks and
nickels from the “juke” box were
all donated.
Games of ping pong, checkers
and dominoes were enjoyed as

thing more phrenetic than a Vi-
ennese waltz.
Headed by the lovely Lola her-
self, the company presents a wide

heels and clicked its castanets

critic when he saw Lola Montes
and her Spanish dancers, the bril-
liant and versatile company of
seven dancers that will appear
here on Friday at the junior high
school auditorium as the second
program of the Gainesville Com-
munity Concert association.

west coast the photogenic young
dancer was spotted by Hollywood
talent scouts and was wooed
away from the Amaya company.
Ever since, Lola Montes has made
her headquarters in Hollywood.
The number of films in which
she has been featured is con-
stantly growing. Among the
many pictures in which she has
appeared are “The Bridge of San
Luis Rey,” “Rhythm of the Rum-
ba,” “Caribbean Romance,” “The
Gay Senorita,” “Allergic to Love”
and "Extravaganza Pan - Ameri-
cana.”
Between film assignments, the
lovely dancer has continued her
concert activities. She has danced
on the leading concert stages of
the country: New York’s Car-
negie hall, San Francisco’s War
Memorial Opera house. Los An-
geles’ Philharmonic and Shrine
auditoriums, C h i e a g o’s Civic
Opera house, Philadelphia’s Acad
emy of Music, to name only a
few. For four consecutive sea-
sons she has been the dance star
of the Santa Barbara fiesta. Un-
der the baton of Leopold Stokow-
ski in the famed Hollywood bowl,
she danced the ballet sequences
in “Carmen,” and she also ap
peared in the bowl’s production
of “La Traviata,' with Nadine

Carmen Amaya and her cele-
brated dance company. Although
only in her early teens, Senorita

Building Better
Citizenship Topic
For Panel Program
Plans studied by young people
for “Building Better Citizenship
in Your Community” were told
Friday evening to an audience in
the J. M. Lindsay school audi-
torium. The speakers were
Charles Woolfolk, Sue Thomas,
Lu Ann Browning, Bob Lynn and
Bill Sullivant, all members of
the Gainesville high school stu-
dent council Mrs. Bob Holder
was in charge of the program.
Charles Woolfolk introduced
the panel and summarized their
talks at the close. Miss Brown-
ing spoke first on “A Bold Pro-
gram for the Schools” followed
by Bob Lynn with “Citizen Fail-
ure Means Corrupt Government.”
Sue Thomas told of the Citizen
of the Week plan used by many
schools and talked on “Corrupt
Politics.” The fourth topic, by
Bill Sullivant, was “Citizen Par-
ticipation in the Community.”
The program followed a social
hour. After the young people
talked Mrs. Robert McLeroy gave
an inspiring devotion.

the P.-T.A. city council which
sponsored the program, presided
for business. Three retired teach-
ers, Misses Carolyn McClure,
Mary Witherspoon and Mrs. L. P.
