creasing the state cigarette tax
from 11 to 14 cents a pack for
$45 million, an increase in the
tobacco tax $6 million; placing
personal services including auto
repairs, laundry and dry clean-
ing and cable television. under
the state sales tax for $48.8 mil-
lion; putting liquor and beer un-
der the sales tax for $40 mil-
lion. including equipment rental
under the sales tax for 99 mil-
lion. and increasing fees to the
secretary of state for $2.6 mil-
lion.
The increased fees to the sec-
retary of state was Smith's
only tax recommendation to win
final approval.

almost as many objections as a
proposed 14 per cent increase in
natural gas production taxes by

decorated with the Distinguish-
ed Flying Cross for aerial
achievement in Southeast Asia.
Sergeant Windham distinguish-
ed himself by heroism when he
helped rescue a downed pilot.
He manned the Jolly Green Gi-
ant minigun and suppressed en-
emy fire which enabled the pilot
to safely board the rescue heli-
copter.
The sergeant, who flew res-
cue missions as a combat pho-
tographer and recently logged
his 5000th hour of flying time.
Is scheduled for reassignmen
to Forbes AFB, Kan.
He graduated from Brown-
wood High School in 1945 and
from Southwestern Assembly of
God College, Waxahachie, in
1949.
