DEAR POLLY — I tried one thing and then another on
my rugs where the non-slip finish has worn off but with no
luck until I thought of using a vinyl floor runner. I cut
pieces the size of the rugs, put them down with the smooth
side against the floor and they do not slip anymore. When
the pads need cleaning I take them outside and shake them
or even turn the hose on them and let them dry. — MRS.
A.S.
DEAR POLLY — I find it is useless to put newspapers on
the floor when cleaning my built-in oven because the
loosened grime drips on the cabinet below and will stain it.
So now I fold several sheets of newspaper over the open
cabinet doors, close the doors to hold the papers in place
and thus create a drop cloth canopy. As each sheet gets
soaked it is tom off and there is a fresh one. I have been
married only a couple of years and find the Pointers make
my housework a bit easier. — KAREN

BRAS & GIRDLES
Scuff mark solution
By Polly Cramer
POLLY’S PROBLEM
DEAR POLLY — There are a few smooth black
spots on my bathroom linoleum that will not come off
after using cleansers, bleach, peroxide, etc. I do not
know what caused them and wonder if you could
suggest something else I could use to try to remove
them. — ETHEL. ,
DEAR ETHEL - Perhaps the following letter
from a reader will be of help to you. — POLLY.
DEAR POLLY - My Pointer is for scuff marks on
linoleum floors and also does wonders for marks on
porcelain enamel appliances such as freezers, etc.
Dab lighter fluid on a paper towel or soft cloth and
rub over the marks. Some marks on my freezer that I
thought were scratches even came off easily but
naturally if marks do prove to be scratches or picks
in linoleum the lighter fluid will not take them off
(Polly’s Note: Handle the lighter fluid with care and
keep away from matches and fire.) — JUDY.
DEAR POLLY — I would like to tell Elusa who has
trouble with her red towels running or bleeding when they
are washed that I use one cup of white vinegar to each
gallon of rinse water. As towels have to be washed so often
I use the vinegar for the first few times. It will not hurt
them to dry in the air. I also think salt helps some but have
had more success with white vinegar. — MILDRED.
DEAR POLLY - I think that if Elusa will soak her red
towels in a solution of one tablespoon alum to each quart of
water she will be surprised as they should not bleed during
future washings. — MURIEL.
DEAR POLLY — For the convenience of my family:
most of whom wear eyeglasses, I keep a squirt bottle filled
with four ounces of an inexpensive glass cleaner and water
as well as a paper towel dispenser above the kitchen sink,
it is so easy for each one to squirt, rinse and wipe their
glasses lens.
My Pet Peeve is that the tops of the bottles of that milky
white glue always stick and clog no matter what. Perhaps
some reader has solved this and, if so, I would appreciate

Another method, and
perhaps an easier one, is to
use year hair dryer turned on
warm until the wax softens a
bit.
Pick up the big chunks and
then use a facial tissue or

magic and leaves no scan.
Naturally your table will
have to be rewaxed after
removing the candlewax.
Good luck and best wishes.
