Potatoes and com are
staples that offer the cook a
choice of dishes ranging
from simple to complex.
Oven-chipped potatoes,
for example, require little
work or watching. Yet, they
are direct relatives of the
elegant Potatoes Anna you U

Tuna com cakes, howev-

Stained table restored
By Polly Cramer
POLLY'S PROBLEM
DEAR POLLY .— I have a lovely antique walnut
table that got badly water spotted during the heavy
rains this winter. The spots had dried before I noticed
them so can you tell me how to remove them? The
entire top is marked. — MARION.
DEAR MARION - If your table was heavily
waxed remove the old wax with liquid wax and M you
are lucky the stains may leave with the wax. Rewax
if you are this lucky. If this does not work, use cold
cigarette ashes and butter or margarine and rub
VIGOROUSLY with the grain of the wood. Have a
man do this, if possible, as old stains and so many
will take a lot of hard rubbing-.When stains
disappear, rub the ashes and butter off with a clean
cloth alee following the grate of the wood. —POLLY.
DEAR POLLY — I am answering Lorraine who wanted
to know how to remove non-skid decals from her bathtub. I
wrote to the manufacturer and was advised that such
decals will just lift up and peel back. If adhesive remains
on the surface spray it with a commercial laundry spot
remover and allow to soak for half an hour. Wipe off with a
coarse dry cloth. Repeat if necessary. — ROSIE.
DEAR POLLY — An elderly neighbor of mine is almost
totally blind and required to take medication one, two,
three and four times a day. Fearing he might have a mix
up when alone and there was no one to supervise his
medication, I tied knots in short pieces of string. To the
bottle of medicine that was to be taken only once a day I
taped a short piece of string with one knot tied in it, two on
the bottle to be taken twice a day and so on. He now counts
the knots with his fingers and knows which medication to
take and when. He feels independent and I am greatly
relieved. — LOUIE.

Fall brings in a slimmer silhouette
By Elite Grwssmaa
NEW YORK (NEA) - (To the tune of "Look
For the Silver Lining":
Look for the padded shoulder; when you are
buying your wardrobe for fall
But skirts are slimmer; the lines are
trimmer; still you can ko-o-se your hips, your
paunch and rear inside a pair of pants (which
taper down and grab your ankles. Meanwhile,
you’re wearing this huge top with a vest, yet,
and they’re saying the silhouette is slimmer
- where can you find the body under all this,
would you answer that, please?).
The suit's back and so are fringes (and wide
cinched belts to pull in prairie dresses and
things western like that);
And Annie Hall's the name of the game
(that means a big sloppy shirt, jodphurs, a
vest, a man’s tie and a hat, by all means);
You’ll see lots of gray-white-wine-plaids,
schoolgirl dresses, quilting, jackets and leg —
not only is the skirt narrower, it’s slashed up
to here.
And so much for getting everything inside
eight bars at music and having it all scan, to
boot, (which is short and high-heeled or high
and low-heeled, come to think of it.)
