Wilson from third, leading Kansas City
over Texas. Wilson ran for Clint Hur-

middle to move the fleet Wilson to third
and set up Braun’s game-winning hit.
“That was probably the most im-

dot all-star lineup
STEPHENVILLE—Central Texans dominate the
starting lineup for the East in Saturday’s six-man
all-star football game climaxing the Texas Small
School Coaches Assn, clinic.
An all-star basketball game is scheduled for 2
p.m. Saturday in Tarleton State University’s
Wisdom Gym. The grid clash will follow at 8 p.m. in
Memorial Stadium. Tickets will be available at the
gym and stadium gates.
Central Texans scheduled to start offensively for
Coach Bill Massingill’s East squad are Brian
Holmes of May at running back, Robert Windham
of May at end and Vandell Norwood of Star at cen-
ter. Quarterback Gary Ellis of Venus, halfback
Monte Williams of Buckholts and end Carl Frazier
of Strawn will round out the lineup.
Defensively, the East will feature ends Terry
Francis of Cherokee and Rocky Adcock of Gustine,
linebacker Mark Thweatt of Mozelle and safety
Sammy Flores of Cherokee. Linebackers Kenny
Massingill of Jonesboro and Carl Rodler of Oglesby
will also start.
The West outweighs the East 10 pounds ner man,
but that was the case a year ago when the East
walked away a 46-28 winner. “We’re not quite as
big as they are, so we’re going to have to counter
with speed and aggressiveness,” Massingill said.

Ron Guidry says it’s a nice feeling
being needed. And, oh boy, do the New
York Yankees need him.
Without Guidry’s glittering 14-1
record, the defending world champs
would feel like the world chumps.
“It’s a privilege to know that they are
depending on me so much and I can
come through for them,” said Guidry
after fashioning his latest victory, a 4-0,
four-hit beauty over the Minnesota
Twins Thursday night.
Even with the triumph, the Yankees
are still floundering in the middle of the
American League East, 13 games
behind the front-running Boston Red
Sox. They would be even lower than
fourth place without Guidry's 13-game
credit.
“When Guidry's right, it’s a
mismatch against everyone," noted
Yankee Manager Billy Martin, who has
witnessed the collapse of most of his
heralded pitching staff this season.
