FORTUNA, N.D. (AP) - Ten
years ago Judy Clark thought
she was getting a bargain when
she bought an old doll at an
auction for only 25 cents.
Though the doll turned out to
be damaged, that purchase has
since proved to have been a
good investment.
“I’ve already made more
than $1,000 this year making
and dressing dolls in my free
time,” said Mrs. Clark, whose
hobby as a doll maker stems
from the one she acquired in
that musty antique store.
When she examined it closely
she discovered that the doll had
a broken nose. But rather than
throw it away or resell it, she
decided to mend it herself.

DEAR HELOISE*
To wash small bows and
narrow ribbons, dissolve a
little detergent in water in a
jar large enough to give plenty
of room.
Add the bows or ribbons,
cap the jar tightly, and shake
it vigorously several times.
For badly stained bows or
ribbons, you can soak them in
the jar for a short time.
Keep up the good work. —

The Canadian political
spectrum has embraced a
plethora of political persua-
sions. Since the year of Con-
federation, 1867, there have
been over 45 different party
labels in official existence
and contesting elections.
Most of these parties have
never attained any national
prominence; indeed, the
majority disappeared into
oblivion without electing a
single candidate.

DEAR POLLY — My son gave me a short shag rug that
was in a house he bought from people who had cats and
dogs The rug had a terrible smell. I tried using ammonia
on it but that did not help so I tried putting dark vinegar on
it with a brush. After the vinegar evaporated the smell was
gone (Polly's Note — Do test the effect of dark vinegar on
the color of your rug before proceeding.) — MRS. A.H.

DEAR POLLY — I have discovered a simple way to take
decals out of a bathtub. I turn my blow dryer on high and
hold it on the object or to the side of it just long enough for it
to loosen the glue. It will then peel right off. I use a paper
towel to wipe the glue and it rolls right up. This has worked
most successfully for me Also removes plastic picture

DEAR FRIENDS:
I recently spent some time
in New Orleans at the
American Home Economics
Association's annual con-
vention and met some won-
derful people who are going to
help all of us.
The American Home
Economies Association
(AHEA) has over 58,880
professional home economists
employed by federal and state
governments, schools,
colleges and publicly owned
firms, research agencies, etc.
It has the expertise of
members who specialize in
family economics and home
management; textiles and
clothing; art; family relations
and child development; food
and nutrition; housing, home
furnishings and equipment;
communications; Institutional
administration; home
economics education, and
international service.
There are affiliated home
economics state associations
in all 50 states, D.C., and
Puerto Rico.
One part of this vast
association which I am really
interested in, for your sake, is
the cooperative extension
home economist. AHEA
members include some 3,800
extension specialists who
work in counties throughout
the U.S.
