Lauri Walters following
her dreams
in the sixth century SC. a Grecian scribe named
Aesop wrote the words. Beware lest you lose the
substance by grasping at the shadow " Over 2,000
years later, young Lauri Walters followed his advice
and her dreams into the acting profession Today she
stars as Joannie Bradford in ABC-TV's Eight Is
Enough '
Born and raised in San Francisco. Lauri expressed
an early interest in drama, recruiting neighborhood
playmates to join her in a variety of back-porch
productions Despite her obvious affinity for the real
thing, however, she envisioned a teaching career for
herself and majored in drama at Humboldt State
University, giving extracurricular acting instruction to
young students in the federally funded Upward Bound
program
Taking the same advice she offered her students,
Lauri set her sights on an acting career She moved
to Berkeley, went back to school and became actively
involved in the street theatres and resident repertory
companies of northern California The talented young
actress was soon playing leads in a variety of
productions from classical to contemporary, which
captured the attention of Hollywood film producers
and resulted in a role in the ABC television movie. The
People
Lauri's career continued to gain momentum, her
list of credits encompassing the Harrad Experiment'
motion picture, numerous television guest appear
ances and, currently, her series role in Eight Is
Enough
Lauri s career ambition is to stay active in all
performing mediums As well as growing in television
she wants to continue her film career and is adamant
about never losing touch with the stage and live
audience Lauri sums up her ambition and goals by
saying. I want my work to surprise me, always '
