LONDON lAP) — Eleanor Donoghy,

court for cruelty to prawns. Her alleged
crime was to fry the shrimplike
creatures to death instead of boiling
them
Her case has so confused the court
that it adjourned for nearly two months
so that experts can decide such funda-
mental questions as "what is cruelty?"
and even "what is a prawn?”
Miss Donoghy works at a fish-
processing plant near Berwick in the
north of England Her job was to dump
prawns into boiling water in part of the
process that turns them into scampi.
Instead, her workmates allege, she
put prawns onto a hot stove and wat-
ched as they "jumped about in agony"

A bit of drama unfolded
Saturday morning during the
steer show at the Brown County
Youth Fair when three pigs
managed to get loose from their
stalls in another section of the
youth fair barns and race into
the arena ring.
The surprised cattle began to
stampede and, in the melee that
followed, a few youngsters were
knocked down But due to the
quick action of fair officials,
cattle were pulled to their feet
while other officials routed out
the pigs and calmed the cattle
down.
Debbie Wright, one of the
youngsters who was showing
her steer, received a leg injury
but after a brief rest continued
to show her animal. While she
was out of the ring, Ann Tongate
showed Debbie Wright’s steer

covers any domestic or captive animal,
birds, fish or reptiles Prawns are not

Miss Donoghy’s lawyer argues that

but insects, and therefore uncovered by
