Todd Betterton, son of Wilma Bet-
terton and the late Tommy Betterton
of Deport was awarded the
prestigious Behrens Annual Phar-
macy Scholarship. Todd is currently
attending Southwest State Universi-
ty in Oklahoma The Behrens Scholar-
ship is awarded on grades, not applied
for.

Dies At 80
Loyd Marshall, age »• died Friday
morning in Carlsbad, NM after a long
illness , .
Funeral services were held Sunday
at 3 p m in Carlsbad. He was raised
in the Cunningham community and
had lived in Lamar County several
years ago __
He married Mrs. Oma Pomroy in
1930 and she survives, and one son,
Loyd Jr. Marshall of Ft. Worth; one
step-daughter, Mrs. Kitty Ruth
Secrest of Alamagordo, NM; one
step son, Weldon Ray Bishop of
Ruidoso, NM; several grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.

Dies At Age 69 9
WH. (Dub) Montgomery. 69, of
Bogata died Wednesday, April 30 near
Albuquerque, NM.
Services were scheduled for Friday
afternoon. May 2.
Mr. Montgomery was born
December 21,1916 in Red River Coun-
ty, a son of James M and Veta Hale
Montgomery. He married Faye
Chesshir on May 29,1945 in Paris. She
died October 16,1977 He was a retired
school teacher and rancher.
Bogata Funeral Home had charge
of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Joe Ford, R.D.
Dugger Jr., Steve KNowles, Norman
Montgomery. Glenn White and Duane
Glover.
He is survived by one son, Lonnie
Montgomery; one daughter. Borde
Montgomery of Tucson, AZ an
grandson, Jimmy Edwards of
Quitman.

Cora Francis Whitaker, age 90,
formerly of Bogata, died Monday,
May 5 at North Hills Medical Center
in Ft. Worth.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, May 7 at the First Bap-
tist Church in Bogata. Rev. Bob
Posey officiated and burial was in
Turner Cemetery by Bogata Funeral
Home. Grandsons were pallbearers
She was born October 14, 1895 in
Arkansas, daughter of John and Belle
Vickery Ison. Her husband, Don M.
Whitaker died in 1970. She is surviv-
ed by two sons, Grady Whitaker of
Canton, Herbert Whitaker of Quinlan;
five daughters, Mrs. Ruby Moore an
dMrs. Opal Henderson both of Dun-
can, OK, Mrs. Roxie Wise and Mrs.
Dorna Sprinkle both of Haltom City,
Mrs. Windola Roberts of Burleson;
one brother, George Ison of
Seagoville; one sister, Mrs. Edith
Muse of Tulsa, OK; 26 grandchildren;
50 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-
great-grandchildren. She was also
preceded in death by two sons, Luther
and Jewell.
Mrs. Johnie Compton
Dies At Age 85
Funeral services for Johnie Young
Compton of Weatherford were con-
ducted Saturday, May 3 at 1:30 p m
in Grant Funeral Home chapel with
the Rev. Glen Renfro officiating with
burial in Highland Cemetery.
Mrs. Compton died Wednesday in
Weatherford. She was born
December 20,1900 in Lamar County,
a daughter of John and Elizabeth
Merritt Young. She married Curtis
Compton, who died in 1918.
Surviving are a son, Curtis Com-
pton Jr of Weatherford and four
grandchildren.
