Denise Cheatwood, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Gary Cheatwood of Bogata,
and seventh grade student at Bogata
Junior High School, has been notified
by Duke University that she has
scored high enough to attend a state
wide recognition ceremony in Waco
on July 7. honoring those students who
received high scores on the Talent
Search.
Duke University sponsors the
Talent Identification Program that
identifies seventh grade students by
the scores on achievement tests If. on
a standard school achievement test,
a student scores tn a very high
percentile, he or she is then permit-
ted to take the college board’s
scholastic aptitude test. The SAT is
designed primarily for eleventh and
twelfth grade students considering
college, but is used in assessing the
verbal and mathematical reasoning
ability of these very talented seventh
students. To receive this honor, a stu-
dent must score 430 on the SAT test.
Denise scored 480, thereby qualifying
her for the state honors.
Denise has been very active at
(Bogata Junior High School this year.
She was on the girls basketball and
track teams She placed fifth in
District 19AA 100 meter hurdles. She
also represented the school at the
county Dallas Morning News Spelling
Bee She has been chosen to represent
her school next year as a cheerleader
Denise is a member of the Cuthand
United Methodist Church and serves
as assistant pianist
