Aa Array of Jewels
The occasion for the parade at
fashion, brightened by 34 million
worth at jewels' and presented be-
fore a backdrop of one of the na-
tion's most extensive collections
of modem sculpture, was the 15th
annual Neiman-Marcus Fashion
Exposition.
For the 15th year, the Dallas spe-
cialty store, which, in 45 years has
built an international reputation in
the field of merchandising, brought
from the corners at the fashion
world its four awardees for "dis-
tinguished service in the field at
fashion."
They were, with their'citations:
Roger Fare of Paris—"Whose
genius in glove design has placed
him as a master in a field in
which his country, France, has long
been pre-eminent.”

Delores Del Rio—"The first lady
of fashion of Latin America, whose
great personal taste and beauty has N
set a precept not only for women
of Mexico but throughput South
America."
First Award To Mexico
Miss Del Rio was the first Latin -
American to receive the’ Neiman-
Marcus award.
Twice before, since inception of
the awrd in 1938, had it gone to a
person outside the field of design.
In 1942, it was presented to Mrs.
Leland Hayward, for influence in
fashion creation "through her fine
sense of fashion discrimination"
and in 1950 to Gloria Swanson for
"proving that beauty, taste and fine
fashion sense are tmeless."
Mrs. Adolfo Ruiz Cortinez, wife
of the president elect of Mexico,
was among a group of Latin Amer- .
ican dignitaries who aCcempanied -
Miss Del Rio, a former Hollywood
star and now a leading star, pro-
ducer and director in Mexico and
South America.
The 10 "prophetic fashions" were
outlined as the "elongated waist-
line," the sweater coat, the “great
stole” the mobile hat, the emphat-
ic glove, the replete back, the,tu-
bular coat, the fluid took of silk
jersey, the shoulder warmer and
the narrow look at night
Most impressive were the bulky,
unusual fabrics, such as a strap-
less, molded short formal of cam-
el's hair and cocktail dresses in
tweed.
