ments to all who participated in that
meet as well!
For those who want to find ONLY
the bad in our schools, I say look
again! There are many who strive
for excellence. Perhaps a few of the
wished, they would be able to come
outside to my car to view what I
had.
I thanked the dealer I was talking
to and left politely, put my things up
and came back in to talk to the
obnoxious, and arrogant people in
this town during the thirteen years
I’ve been here.
There ARE nice people in Boerne,
but it seems they're not out in the
open to be found very often. If the
rest would take example from these
few, maybe Boerne would be a nice
place to live. If people would just be
polite and considerate, they just
might get the same in return.
TO THE EDITOR:
I was under the impression that
Boerne is supposed to be one of the
friendliest of the hill country; and,
that the citizens of Boerne are asked
to patronize their own businesses to
make Boerne a better town, and
Nellie T. Ross of Wyoming held two
important firsts for women. She
was the first woman governor in
the U.S. from 1925 to 1927 and later
was the first woman to serve as di-
rector of the U.S. Mint.
Sincerely,
Charles R. Roesler

TO THE EDITOR:
In these stressful times we’re
living in, it’s hard to find many
people who take the time to show
“fellow feeling,” especially in the
medical field.
So since we have found such a
person, namely Dr. Michael Guerra,
Kerrville Ophthamologist, we felt
we must express our appreciation
for his kindness in keeping his office
open after hours, Friday, March 2,
waiting for us to come from Boerne.
Thank you again so much.

sincere thanks to all who are
citizens and businesses.
Boerne is always concerned what
impression out-of-towners have of
this town. Maybe the citizens would
take a better look at the example
they are not setting.
It has been my experience (and
that of others) that this community
is not exactly what it says it is. I
have come across more rude and
arrogant people in this town than
I have people who are kind and
considerate. This weekend is a fair
example of this:
I visited the antique show this
weekend as much of the public did. I
visited the show on Saturday, and
upon talking to many of the dealers
there, was given the impression
that I as a private collector — not a
dealer, would be able to take in
some of my collections (of which I
am selling) to show to the dealers
for sale. No one said anything to the
contrary, nor objected.
Thus, I went back Sunday with a
few items. I was not stopped at the
door, nor were there any regula-
tions posted to say otherwise.
I had talked to a dealer or two
when I was approached by a lady
dealer and a staff member of the
show. The lady was somewhat
polite, but the man was very rude
and extremely arrogant.
I was asked to leave because I
was attempting to sell to a couple of
the dealers. I was told if I was a
dealer, but
a private

IS there! It is in the form of
administration, faculty, staff,
students, parents, and friends of the
schools — our strength is our
people!

TO THE EDITOR:
While the newspapers and the
BISD Board of Trustees focused on
the corrective/improvement actions
required by the Texas Education
Agency (TEA), the recently
released Accreditation Report
included a high number of positive
comments about our Boerne Schools
which also should be recognized.
Almost every page in Section III of
the TEA report cited areas where
the BISD is doing a great job. A few
examples from the report are: “The
BISD curriculum is well balanced
and offers numerous opportunities
for students;” “The BISD has in
place a process for identifying
students with dyslexic problems;”
“The BISD has numerous instruc-
tional arrangements designed to
address student needs including
Writing to Read and Writing
Projects.”
Also noted in the TEA report is
the support from parents and the
community. The report cited that
“Teachers commented on the
generosity of parents in providing
instructional resources;” that
“Parental interest and support were
evident;” and that “Parental groups
and ongoing community volunteer
programs are active on each
campus. Unique among these
groups is the Science and Mathe-
matics Booster Club.” The report
also said that “Parents were
involved in each campus planning
process and were instrumental in a
drug awareness program.”
In the area of instruction, the
TEA report included several state-
ments such as: “It is evident that
priority attention is given to
academic goals and objectives;”
“The accreditation team observed a LETTER TO EDITOR

for and competed in one or more of
14 catagories of academic pursuits.
To facilitate this event administra-
tion, faculty, staff, parents and
friends of B.M.S. worked and gave
of their time and effort. Plus there
were many adult leaders from the
10 schools competing. Some 200
students entered the competition.
I am proud and thankful to be
among those working for quality
education in Boerne. It is very
exciting to see so many parents,
students, educators and other
volunteers striving to encourage
academic excellence — not just here
in Boerne but in other south Texas
communities as well.

were not given freely but were
earned by your hard work and
dedication. This positive report just
did not happen but was achieved by
good management and the labor of
many teachers, students, and
parents. The Boerne community can
be proud of the high regard given to
BISD by the TEA accreditation
team. We should give those persons

written information from the staff
as to the rules and regulations to
avoid any further embrassment.
But, upon entering, I was
confronted by this security person
and was promptly told to leave.
I politely asked for confirmation
of the rules, and at this point this
person summoned yet another to aid
in his personal quest to throw me
out, and instructed me they would
probably have to rough me up and
remove me with force (what a laugh,
I have a 5th dan (degree) black belt
in Aikido). He then rudely yelled at
me to go and speak to the lady in
charge, pointing in a general
direction. I politely asked who he
was pointing to, so he and his aid
rudely escorted me to her.
When I met with the lady, she
was very polite and understanding
and a great help to me. All during
this time, the two men stood
guarding me with their arms folded
just waiting to throw me out. I
thanked the lady for her time and
left, telling the men that they had
very bad attitudes.
I had been told the dealers were
professionals and were licensed.
Though I am also professional and
am knowledgeable about collecting
as the dealers, again, I am NOT a
dealer and was not soliciting to any
of the public, but in fact, was dealing
directly with the dealers. I was not
in competition with them.
It was also called to my attention
that the show was strictly for
out-of-town dealers, and Boerne
dealers were banned. Why is this so
when the people of the community
are told to shop Boerne first and to
support their own community? It
does not appear that they are doing
so by supporting this show. This is
not generating business within the
town itself, but elsewhere.
It has been my priviledge (if you
