vation guru a treasured Earth Day
badge. Carolyn Chipman-Evans,
founding director of the Cibolo
Wilderness Trail has made it part of
her life and times to lend a hand
whenever possible when there are
young people who want to know
about growing things, their care and
feeding.
So it was not surprising that
among the many groups she had
worked with at CWT were the Girl
Scouts from Troop 210. They earned
two badges with their conservation
efforts.
“She helped us earn our Earth
Day Badges,” said Lisa Dechert.
Other girls present chimed in with
additional discoveries about pol-
lution, tree planting (two were
planted at CWT by the group),
water concerns and even a test was
made in their homes regarding
safety of home water. “It was
rewarding and fun,” was the general
concensus...“and it was great to get
a new badge!"

When Boerne Community School
kicks off its early registration for
summer programs with an ice cream
social Sunday, April 28 at 2:30 p.m.
at the Boerne Area Community
Center, the candidates for BISD
Board of Trustees will be there to
lend a hand.
Trustees Pam Plunkett and
Corky Corcoran, who are seeking
re-election, will be going for a
double dip next to Dan Griffin, Dave
Weilert, Fred Niccum and Mellie
«, Bergman, all trying for a first term.
Although the candidates are
known to hold different views on the
issues currently affecting the BISD,
they were unanimous in their
support for the Community edu-
cation programs, said Jane
McCutchan, Director of BCS.
“Other non-profit groups as well
as several church school directors
will be there,” McCutchan said. “We
would like to thank HEB manager,
Ted Lechner for donating the ice
cream and Cactus Canyon band
members of San Antonio for coming
out to play for us. The free social is
open to all area residents. Come
w along and find out what is going on
in Boerne this summer.”
Some of the non-profit groups
hoping to attract people to attend
their programs are Friends of the
Cibolo Wilderness Trail, Hill
Country Montessori School, BACC
Door Children’s Theatre and local
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of
America.
“When Boerne Community School
decided to sponsor the social, I
wanted to include everyone who
was planning a special event,” said
McCutchan. “It turned out to be
quite a long list.” (A full schedule of
programs was published in last
week’s issue of The Boerne Star.)
