Now that spring is just around the
corner, many of you are anxious to
break out your lighter-weight cloth-
ing and put away your warm and
woolly clothes. The key to keeping
your fall and winter fashions look-
ing good season after season is
proper storage.
Here are some helpful hints:
1) Clean and dryclean everything
before storage. Some stains that
are invisible may darken with
age. Also, dirt and food stains
are invitations to insects.
2) If you are going to store clothes
in a wooden chest, wrap them in
white tissue paper to avoid ex-
cessive creasing.
3) Store all items in a cool, well
ventilated area. Avoid hot attics,

hold its 4th Annual Celebration on
Saturday, April 27.
Each year the city celebrates its
founding with a celebration. Last
year over 600 citizens attended.
Fair Oaks Ranch is a city of 1860
people, off IH-10 West and the 5,000
acre city sits in three counties
(Bexar, Kendall, and Comal).

Betty W. Nuss of Boerne, died
Tuesday, April 16, 1991, at the age
of 91. She was born March 3, 1900,
in Bowdle, South Dakota.
Miss Nuss is survived by her five
sisters, Julia Nuss, Ida Nuss, and
Frieda Nuss, all of Wichita Falls,
Texas, Emelia Spears of Boerne,
Texas and Elizabeth Schultz of
Houston, Texas; one brother,
Robert Nuss of Tampa, Florida.

An early surprise birthday
[barbecue and all the trimmings]
party was given in honor of Ella
Gass’s birthday [April 17] was held
at the home place in Kendalia on
Saturday, the 13th. It was given by
her three sons and wives and their
families. After dinner they sur-
prised her with a birthday cake.
Betty Ann Duckworth of San
Antonio, Virginia Chaney, Loyd
Shoemake and Ruby Shoemake all
of River Ranch, Boerne had a picnic
lunch, cake and all the trimmings in
honor of Ruby’s birthday, Sunday
April 14th at the Camp Grounds in
River Ranch Estates.
Mr. and Mrs. Preston, parents of
Connie Gass, recently visited
Ronnie and Connie Gass and son in
Kendalia.

Texas Christian University, and 2
full-tuition modeling scholarships
from Barbizon and John Robert
Powers, each worth $1,000.
Every Contestant will receive a
$200 Scholarship to both Barbizon
and John Robert Powers Schools of
Modeling. Miss Julianne Pylant of
Conroe, the reigning Miss East
Texas National Teen-Ager, was
chosen Miss Texas in June, and was
crowned Miss National Teen-Ager at
the National Pageant in August.
Julianne has received over $12,000 in
cash for college and $35,000 in tuition
scholarships. Miss Desiree Cutler of
San Marcos and Miss Patricia
Jochen of Killeen are our 1990-91
Miss South Texas winners.

option to participate in the Vollnteer
Community Service Program of the
National Teen-Ager Pageant. This
program teaches teenagers to share
and to participate in school and civic
activities. Contestants will be judg-
ed on scholastic achievement-
leadership, appearance, and poise-
personality. There is no swimsuit
competition. Talent may be
presented at the option of the partici-
pant or an oral essay on the subject
of “What’s Right About America”.
Ms. Carpenter is being sponsored
by Josie’s Cut & Curl, Mrs. and Mrs.
Rey Juarez (family) and Kendall
County EMS, all of Boerne.
Her hobbies include basketball,
coaching and baseball.

Thursday, at Porter Loring Chapel
with the Rev. Dr. Louis Zbinden
officiating. Interment was in Wood-
lawn Cemetery, in San Antonio.
We now have the required triple
sink for the large kitchen at the
center. We also have a work cart
and a work table. The kitchen still
needs a household stove and a
freezer to be equiped. If you have
any kitchen items you need to be rid
of please remember the Community
Center. All donations to the center
are tax deductible. Think of the
extra space you would have and the
deduction for next year’s taxes!!

be a finalist in the 1991 Miss South
Texas National Teen-Ager Pageant “
to be held at the beautiful El
Tropicano Hotel in San Antonio on
May 3-5. The South Texas National
Teen-Ager Pageant is the Official
Preliminary Pageant to the 20th An-
nual Miss Texas National Teen-Ager
Pageant to be held at Texas Chris-
tian University, Fort Worth, Texas
on June 14-16.
There will be a Regional Winner
and 4 Runners-up in two age divi-
sions: 13, 14, 15 and 16, 17, 18. The
winner in each age division will
receive a $1,000 savings bond, an all
expense paid trip to Ft. Worth to

Josiah J. Willard, Jr., age 83 of
Fair Oaks, died Monday, April 15,
1991. He was a resident of San
Antonio since 1977.
Mr. Willard was President of the
Coca-Cola Bottling Works, Inc.
Elmira, New York, served as
Secretary Treasurer of Coca-Cola
Bottlers and trustee of the New
York Soft Drink Association.
He is survived by two daughters,
Mary Stewart Pollock of Elmira,
New York, and Josephine Pollock

Funeral arrangements were held
April 19, at St. John Lutheran
Church with Rev. Charles Roesler
officiating. Interment was in the
Boerne City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clifford
Wendler, Jack Hardy, Dierk

Dacy, and Howard Duckworth.
