museum beginning at 9 a.m. until 12
noon. The cost of the workshop will
be $5 for all participants (members
and non-members). The museum
will provide hand-outs to all
participants.
Members are being asked to make
plans to attend lunch and a business
meeting (12-2) at the China Kitchen
Restaurant next door to the
museum. The lunch special (entree,
egg roll, fried rice and tea) is $3.50
plus tax. A complete American
menu is also offered.
The Sixth Annual Hot Dam Cold
Water Festival celebrates the
natural beauty of the Canyon Lake -
Guadalupe River area.
The festival will be held on FM
306 & The Guadalupe River, next to
the Maricopa Lodge. The grounds
will open Friday, June 21 at 5 p.m.
and remain open until after the
dance which ends at midnight. On
Saturday, June 22, the grounds will
reopen at 11 a.m. and once again
remain open until after the cance
which ends at 1 a.m.
The open market will feature
vendors from across the state that
will have booths set up to sell arts
and crafts, jewelry, antiques,
collectables. In the food court will be
turkey legs and sausage on a stick,
popcorn, BBQ from Cowboys BBQ &
Rib Co. (Dallas), baked goods, hand
squeezed lemonade, frozen yogurt.
There will be rides for the

- Over 17 billion dollars a year is
estimated to be the cost of illiteracy

- Upwards of 75 percent of Texas

school. Each inmate costs the state

- Texas ranks 47th among the
states in adult literacy.
A workshop for both old and new
tutors will be held Wednesday June
19 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the
Dienger Building (new Library
location) in Boerne. “I have lots of
new materials and books to show
everyone,” said Shirley Stateczy,

groups such as the Senior Citizens
Club and Reading Club in Comfort.
They have all been very interested
in our program, and have made very

office in the Dienger Buidling. “I
hope that anyone who didn’t get to
come to the grand opening of the
new library will come by and see the
library and our office. I am going to
be there regularly on Tuesday and
Thursday mornings.”

Capistrano and the Buzzards return
to Hinkley, Ohio, the Mud Daubers
return to Luckenbach, Texas.
The Mud Dauber is a small,
friendly wasp that likes to build its
nurseries of mud in old barns or
other man-made structures.
The Mud Dauber Festival began
in 1977 when the Mud Dauber was
named the “National Bird of
Luckenbach”.
This year’s Festival on June 29
will feature contests and games
honoring the return of the Mud
offering summer workshops on
“Motor Learning: A Neuro-
psychological Approach To Class-
room Performance” and other
sessions during June, July and
