Before you set sail, make sure your mast will clear power lines. This is particu-
larly important near marinas and launching ramps. An aluminum mast in contact
with a power line is a potentially lethal combination. Once on open water keep a
sharp eye. Power lines may be overhead at any point. Remember, clear sailing
is safe sailing.

TO THE EDITOR:
The voting in the BISD school
board election is over. The two new
candidates, Mrs. Mathews and Mr.
Shumpes now have the hardest job
of all - proving that they are going to
be fair and independent minded. As
Mrs. Mathews indicated that they
must represent all of the BISD
parents, not just those whose vote
and election support they had.

TO THE EDITOR:
Dear Boerne Star
Thank you so much for buying
Girl Scout cookies over the past
years. Cookie sales always brings
about stories of Girl Scouting past.
We feel that Girl Scouts of today are
missing the benefit of all these
memories. So the Kendall County
Girl Scout Service Unit would like
to have a Girl Scout Reunion and
invite all Girl Scouts - young or old,
past or present. We want a time to
share and reminisce. Would you
please help pass the word to

order is not in the best interest of
the children in our district. The
O’Connors and Mr. Beall decided
that they would file it and they
should most definitely pay for it.
The burden is on the O’Connors and
Bealls. If they are concerned about
BISD and our children’s education
then they would not request the
district to foot their legal bills! They
would not have tax dollars taken
from our teachers and schools!-
I am very concerned that this
newspaper would not print any
letters last week (before election)
except for those that agreed with
Mr. McNair’s opinion. Isn’t that
discrimination? I know of several
letters that weren’t printed!

letter the Boerne Star received
(concerning the BISD election) that
was not printed was a letter signed

several attempts to locate Ms. or

Ms. or Mr. Ballin listed a telephone
number. We called that number and
found out it was the residence of

SAFETY
TO THE EDITOR:
I have been in deep thought for
the last few days. It seems that I
have offended someone. Gosh, this
is really upsetting!!
Those who have known me for
many years know that I would
never do anything to agitate
anyone!! Heaven forbid. The thing
that is interesting is the fact that I
am accused of much name calling for
which I am innocent. Words that I
do not use are: “newcomer,
parasite, ignorant yankee, carpet-
bagger”, and a few others for which
I have been credited.
However this letter is not to fight
out personalities in the newspaper.
No one gets anywhere. The two
newspapers that we have here in
Boerne leave a person in a bad
situation. One paper does not want
to publish anything that will create
a controversy, the other does not
want to print anything that is not in
agreement with their views. But let
us get to my point.
A number of people who (then-
own term) consider themselves
newcomers do not understand me in
the least. Maybe our paths have
never crossed and I have not had
the honor of your wisdom. I live in a
small world, my knowledge is small,
my education is lacking. Forgive
me. I only ask for you to allow me to
express/my opinions, political or
otherwise, just as you feel that I
have interrupted your right to do
the same. To quote one of my
favorite western artists, Jim
Reeves, I would like to say:
“WELCOME TO MY WORLD,
WON’T YOU COME ON IN...
KNOCK AND THE DOOR WILL
OPEN, SEEK AND YOU WILL
FIND.”
Our area offers many things to
the people who have recently moved
here and also to those that have
been here “forever.” The American
Cancer Society is always looking for
volunteers to drive cancer patients
into San Antonio for treatment.
They and the American Red Cross
are desperate for people to help in
their fund-raising drives. The Food
Pantry, Family Services, and local
libraries are always needing help.
The PTA, the school’s- Room-
parents. The Boerne, Comort,
Kendalia, and Sisterdale Fire
Departments always need volunteer

together. We played, sang, danced

skills I knew of Girl Scouting — A
selfish experience because this
college girl was having as much fun
as a group of Elementary School

inspite of all the chigger bites.
These girls are all grown, married

because I learned from that group of
girls that giving of time and energy
is very gratifying, and took from
them much more than I gave.
At the age of 43 and with 19 years
as a Girl Scout I can still get out and
jump rope with the girls and play
games most women my age do not
have the opportunity or inclination
to participate in. Selfish? Yes!! and I
intend to stay that way!
