be working with the food project.
Astoria noted that between 16
and 20 new families have been
coming to the Food Pantry per
month. “We have been buying quite
a bit of food (other than what is
purchased from the S.A. Food Bank
each month) such as rice, beans,
noodles, canned goods, oatmeal,
flour, detergents and soap products.
We fed 179 families this past month,

Mrs. Epperson began specializing
in linens after many years selling
antiques. At estate sales, where she
and her husband would buy items to
stock their store, the linens were
sold along with everything else. She
learned about them so she could
clean and price them to sell.
The actual turning point in her
career came when a friend asked
her to assist with the appraisal of
the Sarita Kennedy East estate.
Mrs. Epperson saw the amount of
exquisite linens involved and
immediately began researching
their value. After the estate was
appraised, she bid on the linens-and
came home with “17 enormous
boxes full.”
The the past 15 years or so, Mrs.
Epperson has acquired a personal
library on textiles and quilts. Her
knowledge has been gained

Senior citizens come in the third
Friday of the month. Every
Tuesday and Wednesday of the
month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,
persons are interviewed at 113
Plant and Blanco, next to Mitchell’s
Cleaners. Food is available to
interviewed qualifying families on

The rain was probably respon-

showing of family need during the
fall and winter,” said Ms. Astoria.
“So many persons were out of work

During her preserntation, Mrs.
Epperson plans to explain the
proper care of linens, including how
to clean and store them. She will use
linen pieces currently on display at
the Historical Society’s Graham
Museum as examples--and she
welcomes questions from the
audience.
This FYI Session will be useful to
anyone interested in learning more
about linens, especially people
currently caring for heirloom linens.
Many of the old linen pieces cannot
be replaced or duplicated today, so
proper care is extremely important.
