we say that it was a day well

living. To vote in the Democratic
elections is to exert an influ-
ence in shaping laws and in
carrying on the government To
vote any other party ticket in
Texas is to destroy your political
influence and waste your vote.
The Democratic party is proud
of the history written around its,
great principles. But the Dem-
ocratic party, as the party of the
people, always looks to the public
welfare. The party is now in-
viting every voter to enter the
Democratic Primaries, no matter
how be may have voted in the
past. That is the spirit of the
Democratic party. The pledge
recommended by the State Exec-
utive Committee does not repre-
sent Democratic policy. The
Committee action has no prece-
dent in the party history. The
party has promptly repudiated
the proposed pledge.
The Primary election held by
the Democratic party is the only
election that counts in Texas.

Yesterday the sad intelligence
was flashed over the wires an-
nouncing the death of Wm.
Hohlt, for many years a resident
of the Bleiblerville community.
Deceased was prominent in all
affairs for the good of his com-
munity and rarely ever shirked
his duty as a man and citizen.
He leaves a wife and some grown
children who are financially well
situated and who shall ever cher-
ish the memory of the devoted
husband and father.
The Enterprise joins the num-
erous friends of the family in
expressing to them sincere sor-
row and sympathy in the hour of
their sad affliction.
Honor to his memory.—New
Ulm Enterprise.

having done this, thoughts were
directed Kenney-ward, and hun-
dreds of cars, loaded with men,
women and children, kept up a
steady stream out Travis street,
with Kenney for their destina-
tion. Also a good number went
on the train from Bellville, and
arriving there saw visitors from
practically every part of the
county, and from neighboring
counties. The crowd was es-
timated at between twenty-two
and twenty-four hundred, all of
whom thoroughly enjoyed the
dinner in the open. For the 4th
of July, the day was exception-
ally cool-in fact, ideal, and in
this particular respect was pleas-
anter than any previous fourth
that we recall. The hospital-
ty of the Kenney people was,
as usual, unexcelled; and while
friends mingled with friends,
the Kenney band of sixteen or
eighteen members, and these
principally young boys, furnish-
ed splendid music for the visitors.
'here was no political speaking,
but candidates galore were there. ।

The 4th of July barbecue, as
previously advertised in the
Times to be given at Kenney,
was in every way a great suc-
cess. The barbecue pit, which
measures 120 feet in length,
was lined with choice beef and
pork which had been over the
coals just the proper length of
time to make a perfect job of it.
Monroe Stokes and a number of
assistants had charge of the pit.
There were perhaps a little bet-

pounds of meats prepared, with
an abundance of bread, pickles,
coffee, and soda water.
Early on the morning of the

Tillotson on Democracy
To the voters of the 18th Sena-
torial District:
The Democratic party is as
old as the government of the
United States. The great prin-

by Thomas Jefferson in the
Declaration of Independence,
and that makes our government
a model for the world are Demo-
cratic principles.
Texas has grown great among i
the States under Democratic
Policies. The Democratic party
is the only party the State has
ever had. It is the only party in
the State to-day able to carry
out its plans of government. It
