To Be Light in
General Election
A light turnout of voters is an-
ticipated in Cooke county Tues-
day for the No. 2 general elec-
tion.
The lack of contested races on
the county level has apparently
held down interest in the election.
However, considerable interest
has keen shown in some of the
11 constitutional amendments to
be submitted to the voters. mak-
ing the ballot one of the longest
ever used in a Texas general

In addition, to her busy home-
life. Mrs. Vestal somehow finds
time to teach a primary Sunday-
school class and to serve as
WMU program chairman in the
Valley View Baptist church. She
has been a school room mother
for the past 12 years and serves
on the advisory council for the
Valley View High FHA chapter
and assists in other school activ-
ities.
Voncille, a high school senior,
and her brother are both 4-H
club members, and she: is still a
member of the Future Home-
makers chapter though she has
already completed her three
years of FHA work. Like her
father. she is a sports enthusiast
and plays on both the girls bas-
ketball and volleyball teams and
is a bass drummer in the pep
squad. She is An excellent cook
and housekeeper and : now has
4-H projects in clothing, yard
work and a dairy calf. She took
a blue ribbon on her calf last
year in the annual Cooke County
Dairy day in Gainesville and has
also won numerous awards on
canned foods at the county fair.
She is a capable seamstress and
makes most of her skirts and
blouses. She hopes to enter Bay-
lor university next fall.

Mrs. Helen Yoshida. 61, wife of
Echo Yoshida of Minneapolis,
Minn, died in a Denison hospital
Saturday at 2:50 p.m. following, a
heart attack suffered several
weeks ago.
Mrs. Yoshida was a circus per-
former who became ill while with
Hagen Bros, circus showing in
Denison several weeks ago. She
used the professional name of
Helen Hartley and she and her
son. Don Jerry- Hartley, also-a
performer. had wintered at Fair
park in Gainesville in years past.
Funeral services will be held at
Bratcher-Moore Funeral home
chapel in Denison Wednesday at
10 a.m., Rev. Ed Bayless, pastor
of the First Presbyterian church,
officiating. with burial in Fair-
view cemetery there. Several
Gainesville circus people will at-
tend. . a
Survivors are Mrs. Yoshida’s
husband, two sons, Don Jerry-
Hartley. who was with his mother
at the time of her death; and

Circus Board to
Pass on Contract
With Bell Tuesday
The board of directors of
Gainesville Community circus
will meet at Curtwood restaurant
for breakfast Tuesday morning
to pas on a contract providing
for the leasing of the show’s
equipment to Gus Bell of Dallas,
for use during the 1955 season
by the Ward-Bell circus.
Mi. Bell and his attorneys. Car-
roll F. Sullivan t and George
West, met with the circus board
Sunday at 7:30 a.m. at Curtwood,
with 13 board members present.
Dr. A. A. Davenport, acting
president, presided and read a
letter from performers urging
the Gainesville show continue its
activities.
Dr. Davenport appointed a
committee composed of Jack
Howard, Ernie Baker and J. B.
Saylors to meet with Bell and
his attorneys and work out a
contract that was agreeable to all
parties concerned. This was ac-
complished by noon Sunday.
This contract is to be submit-
ted to the board Tuesday for
final action. Bell had urged quick
action so he could begin booking
his show.
He announced that his show
would open its U.S. tour in
Gainesville as a feature of the
Circus Roundup in April and
Gainesville circus acts would par
ficipate in the performances.
A nominating committee head
ed by J. B. Saylors was also
named and asked to report with-
in a week.
