Denton-Slidell Line.
Hon. A. C. Owsley of Denton was in
Dallas yesterday on business con-
nected with the Denton-Slidell rail-
road, whiCh the Denton chamber of
commerce, of which he is president,
is promoting. The line is proposed
to extend from Denton to Slidell, a
distance of about twenty miles, and
penetrates a very rich and well devel-
oped farm section of Denton county
which is without railroad connection.

Texas Hogs At The Head
Two expert hog breeders who at-
tended the International Livestock
Show at Chicago made the statement
that the hogs that won the grand
champion honors at the greatest of all
stock shows were no better than the
third premium hogs at the National
Feeders and Breeders’ Show at Fort
Worth, and that the grand champions
at the Fort Worth show were so far
superior to anything at Chicrgo that
they would have been in a class by
themselves.
The hogs that won the grand cham-
pionshipatthe great Fort Worth show
were Texas hogs. as Chicago is sup-
posed to attract the best hogs in the
country, we may be pardoned for con
sidering Texas hogs better than the
best. Anyhow, that’s the way it looks.

honors last year, a number of others

KK YE started out with the New Year with the determination of making this store the best in
V V Decatur and to increase our business two-fold; and, as a reminder to you, we call your
dividual cencern. Wisconsin and
some other northwestern states have
settled this by requiring a school
trustee to attend such meetings three
or four times a year and paying ac-
tual traveling expenses of trustees
while in attendance upon these coun-
ty associations. I merely mention
this for what it is worth.’’
Dr. Cartwright Dead.
Dr. J. W. Cartwright, one of the
old time citizens of Decatur, died
Tuesday night at his home in Ama-
rillo. Dr. Cartwright had many
warm friends in this section end they
will be grieved to leasa of his death.

The patrons of this 57th school dis-
trict of Wise county meet with the
teachers at Prairie Point Friday 13th

Teachers Association. There were 16

their homes.
The members were elected officers of
the club for the ensuing year, Mr.
Eugene Holt Pres., Mrs. Eugene Holt
Vice Pres., Miss Estella Nobles Sec.

The club is full of enthusiasm for a
better school and we are expecting
great results with their co-oporation.

An Old Question Revived.
A frog eating French professor has
added further complications to the
old Shakespeare-Bacon controversy
by declaring that he has discovered
proof that Shakespeare was a French-
man. This learned delverinto mystic
lore says that the famous dramatist’s
real name was Jaques Pierre which
was easily corrupted by the Er-lisd
into Shakespeare. It is now probable
that the old dispute as to "heashen
there ever existed such an individual
as Shakespeare, and if so did he write

education in Texas: “Dear Mr.
Simpson—I am very much pleased to
note a number of excellent resolu-
tions adopted by your recent county
trustees association. In my judg-

and teachers in a county have great
possibilities and should be encour-
