The future of Houston's Jewish
community was strengthened by
the purchase of a site for a full
service JCC in West Houston, an-
nounced Bubba Silberstein, pres-
ident. The property, the current
home of the West Memorial Bap-
tist Church, located at 1120 South
Dairy Ashford Road, one-half
block south of the Katy Freeway,
was chosen after a yearlong search
headed by JCC leader, Jack Turk,
and Federation past president,
Noel Graubart.
The decision to acquire a loca-
tion for a major Jewish communal
presence in West Houston was
approved by the Center's Board
of Directors and the Jewish Fed-
eration's Board of Trustees after
a yearlong study based on the re-
sults of the 1987 Demographic
Survey which was chaired by Vic
Samuels, who was serving as JCC
president at that time. The survey
indicated that a full service JCC
was a priority for residents of the
area.
A successful test fundraising
campaign was conducted in West
Houston among current JCC
members and prospective mem-

Weinberger, chairman of the nom-
inating committee. "Her dedica-
tion and enthusiasm for the Jew-
ish National Fund make her the
perfect choice for this prestigious
position," Weinberger said.
Other officers being installed
are Fred Pelsinger, first vice pres-
ident; Dr. Caren Gertner-Fritts,
Howard Waldman, Myrna Fisch
and Juliette Radinsky, vice presi-
dents; and Lennie Weinberger,
treasurer.
