Kollek, "that most generous in-
clusive Israeli politician", Kirk-
Patrick said, "stressed" to her
"whatever Arafat may say, it is im-
possible to accept any change in
Jerusalem's status as one united
city, under Israeli sovereignty and
as capital of the State of Israel.
Any attempt or suggestion to
change this situation means ...
returning to the difficult days of a
divided and neglected city, deft
by high walls and barbed wire."
"Only under Israeli rule has the
city known conservation of its
historical heritage, freedom of
worship and free access for all to
the holy places of all faiths, and
guaranteed rights for all the reli-
gions and nationalities in the
city," Kirkpatrick quoted Kollek.
The former U.S. representative
to the United States said Kollek
further emphasized that "despite
the difficulties, the tensions and
the distressing events that have
occurred in the city, there is a firm
consensus in Israel to live in
peace in Jerusalem".

who is a friend or a relative is a
form of cruelty. Children can be
cruel to parents who live in an-
other city when they don't phone
them, when they show very little
courtesy or kindness.
Perhaps you have a friend of
long years standing whom you
have neglected. You haven't visit-
ed1 that person and that friend is
quite alone. This is a kind of cruel-
ty for it hurts your neglected
friend to be passed by so utter-
ly.
Cruelty can be the way you re-
fuse to say a word of compliment,
a word of favor to someone near
you. I think that husbands and
wives are cruel to one another if
they belittle one another in pub-
lic, if they reprimand one another
in the presence of others. Cruelty
is an assault upon the dignity of
the individual, whether verbal or
physical.
If you believe in the dignity of
man and the sanctity of personal-
ity, then you must honor the hu-
man being who is the child of
God. A life is sacred. A life is holy.
You must have reverence for life
