but as Clay slid into third, Gretsy

Manager Roy C. Heathington of the
legion bunch, then demanded a new
umpire, which was rerused, and he
called his men from the field. The
game was never forfeited by the
umpire, so it was no game.
“Pug” Rutherford pitched for the
legion, and with the exception of a
home run which scored two men, the
Denton bunch had no luck off of his
delivery. He struck out four men
and got two singles out of two trips.
Petty scored two men for Decatur in
the fifth when he rapped a two-
bagger down first base line. Deth-
eridge got two hits out of three trips.
Green made a wonderful catch in the
first. Two men were on when Cave
rapped a liner which looked good for
revenue be augmented, and if so by
what percentage?” That was last
tail and spring answered for the
community during the several dairy
campaigns that were prosecuted by
the county agent and the chamber of
commerce co-operating. Dairy spec-
ialists then assured us it was possible
by the means of developing a better
general type of milk cow to incerase
the quantity ot production from fifty
to seventy-five per -ent, and th s
without increasing the number of
cows in use. The method prescribed
to increase the quality and quantity
of production of the cows was put in
action thru the organization of a bull
circle that resulted in bringing into
the community tour register of merit
bulls of high butter fat production
ancestry which are now in use. This
coming fall another effort of this
kind wil be made with the view of
organizing more circles and introduc-
ing more sires of the higher quality.
With reference to the item of eggs
and the week’s income therefrom of
>723.00 paid out by three buyers
alone it is to be said that while this
amount seems to compose a goodly (
return, investigation has shown the
prevalence of a very wasteful and
excess of the returns from the excess
of price of the guaranteed egg over
the common.
Egg circles are doing business in
Decatur but despite this fact, the
situation is such that the receivers
feel it incumbent upon themselves to
test by the candling machine the
quality of every egg they receive.
It is a situation that contributes
largely to the computed annual loss
of >50,000 the community is sustain-
ing. Consumers in the city markets
will readily pay a premium for good
eggs but they have to be good abso-
lutely and universally or else the
producers at the point of origin will
suffer Cliff D. Cates.

This must be regarded as a very
flattering showing of wnat the indus-
trious poultry keepers and dairymen
of this vicinity are doing. Making
these weekly receipts the basis of a
year’s calculation and adding thereto
the combined receipts cervable from
poultry and turkeys as meat products
it is readily observable that D cat ur‛s
annual transactions in cow and hen
products are nearins, if it has ot
already reached same, the quarter of
a million mark. And still, these
special lines of farming, profitable as
they are, must not be regarded, in
their present stage of development,
as merely side-lines to the general
farm industry of the country.
Taking last week’s figures as the
basis for a year’s calcuration the cur-
rent annual income from dairy prod-
ucts alone attains the munificent sum
< 1 >120,000. It remains to be proven
of course, if the scale of production
and prices from now on thru the
remainder of the summer, fall and
winter will sustain tnat estimate.
Deduction must be made on the score
of the failure of pastures and conse-
quent contraction of the milk supply
that will accompany hot and dry
weather, but coincidentally there
must be taken into the reckoning on
the credit side the -nhancement of
prices that come with the fall and
winter months.
The question arises: “Can the
