We could go on indefinitely cit-,
ing you to roads with one-half
inch rock asphalt webring v sur-
face that have been down • for
many years without giving • any
trouble or causing unusual main-
tenance, but the ones mentioned
established beyond a reasonable
doubt that one-half inch wearing
surface may be laid successfully.
One Other point mentioned by
Mr. Coughlin is that when this
rock asphalt comes from the quar-
ries it contains 10 per cent of as-
phalt in the natural rock, or 200
pounds of asphalt, or 25 gallons,
another 8 gallons of flux oil is
added in order to give the pave-
ment desired penetration, flexi-
bility and resiliency. Therefore a
ton of rock asphalt has 33 gal-
lons on asphalt in it.' The ma-
terial is not only coated but Is
impregnable and does not wear
out. 1
The engineer feels that the
commissioners are offering the
citisens of Medna County in the
vicinity iof Castroville, LaCoste,
Rio Medina and other communi-
ties a most unusual opportunity
to get 16 miles of road surfaced
with a high grade material at a
very low cost.
