Councilman Rihn answered:
“The citizens have a right to
fence the adjoining property. We
only want to keep the streets
cleared." .1
Councilman Rihn answered the
opposition with a petition signed
by 44 citizens endorsing the right
to open the river streets.
He added that petitions cannot
bhangs the action of city council
if they already have stated that
they want the river streets opened.

"More than 150 people have
signed a petition with reference
to the fact that if the barricades
and fences are taken down from
the river streets, then we shall be
bombarded by campers/' . - \
Hart said city councilmen had
the right to open the river streets
if they wanted to, but he had pre-
sented this petition in order to
show council how many people
opposed the move, '
Councilman Maurice Rihn
commented the river’ Streets are
public property. He asked:
"Why shouldn't they be
opened?" .
Hart answered:
"I shall make every attempt to
keep any campers from trespass-
ing on my property. The campers
would come down the river streets
and cross over on my property."
Councilman Denis Tschirhart
declared people who are barri-
cading and fencing public prop-
erty are trespassing,too.
