The new year, however, did finally
get here, and it seemed to do so very
quietly, at least around Llano. Of
course. The Wanderer was sound
asleep, and unless the new year
raised quite a racket, he wouldn’t
have known the difference. Time was
when The Wanerer thought he had
to stay up raising merry hell to see
the new year in, but he has since
discovered that it will come right in
with no help from him, even if he’s
sound asleep.
mands or expectations. What even
hurt their feelings even more was
one hunter just before them. On his
very first deer hunt, he managed to
get a buck in the morning. He then
changed stands with his partner and
got his second buck that evening. He
also received his first and second
lesson in dressing out a deer.
Come to think of it, those were the
limited number of hunters, you have
to have a set of rules to go by — not
only for your own protection, but also
those of the hunters. One of the basic
rules is to stay in your stand and
don’t be walking all over the pasture.
This was really hard for some to
understand.
New Year’s resolutions? They’re
for the birds. You know when you
make them that you’re going to
break them, so why make a lot of
resolutions and then suffer the agony
of defeat? Just try to do better, and
then if you do, pat yourself on the
back rather than suffer frustration if

Another hunting season has ended
and though it was fun while it lasted,
I am not the least bit unhappy about
not having to get up at 5:30 a.m. to
take the nimrods out to their deer
stands. It will be nice to sleep a little
later than usual, if I can ever get
back into the habit.
Personally. The Wanderer has just
about got a bellyful of the bowls.
After the Rose Bowl, the Cotton
Bowl, the Hula Bowl, the Orange
Bowl. the Bluebonnet Bowl. the Sun
Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl and the Hall of
Fame Bowl, we've about had it all
except the Toilet Bowl, and we might
expect that to come along any time in
a flush of football frenzy. Still ahead
is the Super Bowl, and that ought to
end the bowl mania for a while.
On December 24,1987, your paper
reported that the Llano County
Hospital board of directors had
selected myself as the attorney to
represent them in responding to the
allegations of Ms. Tyree McLean. By
way of additional information I direct
your attention to the answer on file in
the courthouse in this matter where-
in you will find that I was retained as
one of the attorneys to represent the
defendants in this matter. The other
attorney who will be representing
the defendants is County Attorney
L.T. DesChamps.
This letter is in no way a criticism of
your reporting, but simply to add
additional information that may not
have been furnished you previously.
I sincerely appreciate your time,
attention and courtesies in this
matter and I wish you and your staff
a very happy and prosperous new
year.
An Associated Press story said earlier this
week that presidential candidates will be
receiving or already have received 928.7 million
in' federal matching funds to help in financing
their presidential campaigns.
Vice President George Bush will receive 95.7
million to win the distinction of being the
biggest money grabber.
Presidential candidates can win eligibility
for the federal funds by raising at least 96,000
in individual contributions of 9250 or less in at
least 20 states. Once eligible, all individual
contributions up to 9260 are matched dollar for
dollar by money from the United State

Perhaps the part I will miss the
most is the stories that hunters tell.
You know the kind that fishermen
tell, only this time the creatures have
antlers instead of fins. It is always
interesting to learn how many points
there were on the deer that got away.
I do good to be able to see the deer
with antlers, let alone be able to take
time to count how many points were
involved. Maybe if they concentrated
more on shooting than counting,
they would have better results.
There were some very good hunters
this year and others who were more
interested in arguing, drinking or
visiting some of the local taverns.
You would be surprised at the
number of hunters who get up early
to get 6n the deer stand before
daylight and then sleep through
most of the morning and, quite
naturally, never see a deer.
Then there were those who really
tried your patience. If you don't have
a large area and can handle only a

tennial funds could best be used to
serve the county, area and city by
combining efforts and funds with the
already existing Riverwalk commit-
tee. The twelve interested persons
who came to the meeting were at
Mrs. Sekerak’s suggestion, desig-
nated a board of directors to serve as
a working board until an election at
the October, 1987, general meeting
of the membership could be held.
It was Mrs. Sekerak who served as
chairman of the board and other
members as officers of the board —
some board members to serve one
year and some two. Bonnie served in
the capacity as chairman by appoin-
ting committees or designating
individuals to select a name and logo
for the group, set its purposes, write
its by-laws, begin the procedure for
writing its charter, which was signed
later by her as a charter member;
and set in motion the business of
incorporating the group as a non-
profit organization.
In addition to these organizational
duties, she enlisted support from
individuals, businesses and civic
groups which had previously aided
her in the Sesquicentennial goals
and who were interested in having
this theater group become a great
cultural influence in the community.
Some of these goals are even now
coming to fruition.
recession is on the way. One of the
best ways to bring on a recession is
to keep howling that one is coming.
Optimism is one of the prerequisites
of presperity, and pessimism is one
the ingredients of depression. The
late Franklin D. Roosevelt was
responsible for one gem of wisdom,
"We have nothing to fear but fear
itself.”
Oh, it could of been your bull, but
I think it was really a tornado!”
will not have been in vain.
That night, our son asked some of
his friends to drive him home
because he had too much to drink.
His friends said, "Man, I can’t, I am
here with my girlfriend.”
It would have taken you all of 10
minutes to drive him home. If you
are at another party and a friend asks
you again, take him or her home.
Don’t let other parents suffer like
we are now. It could very well be
your own.
God protect all of you.

I feel, in writing of the organiza-
tion of a group such as this that we
hope will be a thriving group for
generations to come, that no seg-
ment of its earliest history should be
left out; especially its chartering.
Bonnie Sekerak was forced to spend
several weeks in the hospital and
was unable to participate fully
throughout the year, but it was she
who had the imagination and took
the initiative to set the group in
Treasury. The funds, sources promise, come
from the voluntary 91 checkoff on personal in-
come tax returns.
Twelve presidential candidates will be
receiving the payoffs. Mr. Bush will be
receiving the most at this time. Former
television evangelist Pat Robertson will be
getting 94,496,607; Senator Bob Dole is
receiving 94,338,141. Others are scheduled to
receive less at this time.
Of all the ways our federal government can
find to throw away money, I believe this to be
the most imbecilic of all.
One New Year’s resolution The
Wanderer will make make — he
resolves that under no circumstances
will he run for president. And it
begins to look like he's one of the few
who won’t. The national political
situation is going to be interesting
this year, especially as far as the
Democrats are concerned. The Dem-
ocratic party doesn’t seem to have a
really strong candidate, but practic-
ally everybody is trying to get in the
act. Gary Hart, who did a sudden
about face after withdrawing from
the presidential race and applied to
the government for matching cam-
paign funds in the amount of
9100,000. suffered a slight setback
when two companies filed suits to
attach the matching funds to pay off
debts still outstanding from his
unsuccessfill 1964 campaign. Jesse
Jackson, perennial presidential can-
didate, is making loud noises about
victory in the South, though the
South seems something less than
ecstatic. The Democratic majority in
congress has been so busy bad-
mouthing the Republicans that they

Your article on the "proposed”
Riverwalk and park complex is just
that — proposed.
Work and thought began many
months ago on its development. A lot
of work has already been expended
by several groups, the Riverwalk
Theater Group is but one.
Before the park can become a
reality- however it will be
developed — there must be input
from all concerned, not just one
group. All options must be examined
thoroughly before action is taken.
Example: practical maintenance and
financing. This park will serve
everyone!
I
1 do not wish to minimize the
achievements of the Llano Riverwalk
Theater Group, Inc. or in any way
hamper its future activities as they
were summarized in the December
31 edition of the Uano News, but
some pertinent information did not
appear in the article of which the .
public should be made aware and it
should be a matter of record.
After a paragraph detailing the
organization of the Riverwalk Com-
mittee in 1984, the original members
of that committee were named and
the statement following was that the
formation of the actual committee
was in October, 1966 with 12
members. This 1986 meeting was the
one at which the Llano Riverwalk
Theater Group, Inc. was formed. (1
was one of that twelve and was
absent only one month during the
following year before I felt it
necessary to resign.)
The group was called together by
Bonnie Sekerak, Llano County Ses-
quicentennial chairman. After the
presentation of the Llano County
Historical Sesquicentennial Pageant,
sh and her committee decided that
the more than 93,000 of Sesquicen-

had been out exploring the pasture.
All you had to do was listen Jo their
conversation. True, they Were back
at their stand when it was time to be
picked up, but as they talked about
the day’s hunt, there were such
comments like, ”I found a dead

Another would suggest moving a
stand to a little better location and
yet another would comment on how
long that deer-proof fence was.

It was near the opening of the
hunting season when one hunting
party was thoroughly convinced they
were going to get four deer each.
That was how many tags were on
their hunting license and the land-
owner was supposed to guarantee
them that many deer.
Well, how many times have you

goes? Needless to say they didn’t

Just in case you wondered why it
took the new year so long to get here
this year, it’s because the interna-
tional big shots who have charge of
such things added one second to
1987. The reason they gave is the
fact that the earth’s rotation is
slowing down. However, if it only
slows down one second a year, there
doesn’t seem to be much cause for
worry.

haven’t been able to do their job of
governing the nation. And The
Wanderer will bet his bottom dollar
that House Speaker Jim Wright is
running as hard as he can for
president, though probably not in
the 1988 election.
We’ve just begun to hear the
political name-calling, however. We
still have the two national conven-
tions to get through, and that's when
the character assassination will
blossom into full bloom.
The deadline for filing for political
offices is just about to pass, and that
may stop a bit of chest-beating.
Candidates will have had to put up or
shut up.
The 1988 elections should bring out
a heavy vote, to say the least. A
presidential election year always
does. And that will be good, because
a large vote comes closer to
expressing the will of the people
than a light one where most of the
people are too apathetic to go and
vote.

The most important thing was that
they hunted by the rules. They just
liked, to talk a lot, and their
walkie-talkies were keyed to the
same channel on my CB.
Yes, it was a good year. The deer
were in good condition, but a lot
harder to locate since there was more
food and water in the pastures than
usual. There are plenty of deer left
for next year. It may take a few days
for them to show up, but when the
shooting stops, they once again
become gentle and less inclined to
run.
There is one big buck between
Fredericksburg and Kerrville that
really has a royal life. He is so tame
that you can stop at the roadside and
he will come over for a little petting
and some free handouts. At least he
is safe for another year, along with a
lot more.
So ends another hunting season.
