County residents are among the
1,392 students whose 1987 fall
semester grades earned them places
on the Dean's List at Southwest
Texas State University.
To qualify for the academic honors
listing, an undergraduate student
must have earned a grade point
average of at least 3.5 during the
semester while taking at least 12
semester hours of course work.

The grand opening of the new
home of Kingsland House of Arts
and Crafts will be February 13. The
chamber of commerce officials will
perform a ribbon-cutting ceremony
at 10 a.m., followed by an open
house with refreshments until 4 p.m.
We invite everyone to come by for a
visit with us on this our special day.
On January 27, instead of a
demonstration, we had just an
informal get together. Everyone
inspected our new home. • Sugges-
outside booth space, $30 for non-
members and $20 for members. This
cost includes both weekends.
We are happy to welcome two new
members — Rita Book of Bluffton
and Dee Schultz of Kingsland.
Anyone interested in arts and crafts
of any kind, we would like to have
you join our happy group. We meet
the second Wednesday of each
month for business meeting then the
fourth Wednesday is for some sort of
demonstration. You are welcome to
come and visit anytime.

her proposed plans were submitted

Marine Pvt. Russell L. Jones, son
of Henry P. and Jeanne J. Booth of
Kingsland, has completed recruit
training at Marine Corps Recruit
Depot, San Diego.
During the 11-week training cycle,
Jones was taught the basics of
battlefield survival. He was intro-
duced to the typical daily routine that
he will experience during his enlist-
ment and studied the personal and
professional standards traditionally
exhibited by Marines.
He participated in an active physi-
cal conditioning program and gained
proficiency in a variety of military
skills, including first aid, rifle
marksmanship and close order drill.
Teamwork and self-discipline were
emphasized throughout the training
cycle.
A 1981 graduate of Llano High
School, he joined the Marine Corps
in April 1987.

KINGSLAND — Laura Murrah
Norred was presented with the
Hermann Sons Humanitarian Award
for 1987 at Highland Lakes Lodge
No. 317’s regular meeting at Lee
Hal1 January 26. She has been very
active in service to the community:
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 437
for 11 years, Kingsland Hills Care
Center, Highland Lakes Senior Cen-
ter, Veteran’s Hospital at Kerrville
and her church. The lodge is proud
to have her as its 1988 president.
Arlen Leeder was elected to the
trustee committee to fill a vacancy
caused by the death of Milton
Tschoepe. All the officers not
