Catherine Selman Norton, age 75,
of Llano died February 19, 1988, at
her residence. She was born Novem-
ber 10, 1912, in Llano County. She
was a member of the Catholic
Church and the owner of a dress
shop and Norton’s Flowers in Llano.
Cordelia and Catherine were the
daughters of Thomas William Norton
and the former Mary Agnes Segger-
son.

Other indictments with defendants
unnamed were for: forgery by
passing (2), DWI-subsequent of-
fense; aggravated sexual assault and
burglary of a motor vehicle.
Court of appeals affirmed judge-
ment of 33rd district court in the case
of Patrick Maurice McMahan for
aggravated assault of a child.

Private family services were held
recently for Marguerite Lee Hester,
95, of Kingsland, who died on
February 16, 1988. She was born
January 13, 1893, in Houston to
Louis G. Hester and the former Cora
Roper. An Episcopalian and a former
( Texas State librarian, she moved to
Kingsland from Austin in 1977.
.Surviving: are a half brother, Fred
Hester of Houston; a sister, Maude
Gray Norris of Houston, and a
number of cousins, nieces and
nephews.
Waldrope-Hatfield Funeral Home
was in charge.
Ussery. He was a member of the
Buchanan Dam Baptist Church.
Two sons, Gilbert Ballard of
Bluffton and Bill Ballard of Buchan-
an Dam, survive him, as do a sister,
Mrs. Ruby Boone of Ft. Worth, six
grandchildren and five great grand-
children.

Graveside services were held
February 22 at 2 p.m. in the Llano
City Cemetery. Interment was in the
Llano City Cemtery under the
direction of the Edgar Funeral
Home, Burnet.
Bart Ballard, 75, of Buchanan
Dam, died February 13, 1988.
Services took place at Waldrope-
Hatfield Chapel in Kingsland on
February 16, with the Rev. Wayne
Pemperton officiating. Burial was at
ington; nine grandchildren and the widower of the former Nora Lee
Tyrner
S.L. Turner, 94, of Kerrville, died
February 12, 1988. He had been a
resident of Kerrville since 1983 and
had resided in Llano for many years
before moving to Kerrville.
He was a retired minister of music
for churches and public schools. He
was a member of Trinity Baptist
Church of Kerrville and the Macabee
Brotherhood Group. He was precee-
ded in death by his wife, Nannie
Davis Turner, in November of 1979.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs.
Simpson
Services for Carrie Von Simpson,
77, of Houston, were held at
Waldrope-Hatfield Funeral Chapel
in Llano on February 20, 1988, with
the Rev. Don Jones officiating.
Burial was at Llano City Cemtery.
Mrs. Simpson was born January 1,
1911, in Llano County, to Joe
Bozarth and the former Ollie Wil-
liams and died February 18. The
widow of Sam Simpson, she was a
retail merchant and a member of the
First Christian Church of Llano. She
had been a Llano resident until 1949.
She is survived by two daughters,
Jerry Graves and Cherry Grant, both
of Houston; a sister, Bess Heulone of
San Antonio, eight grandchildren
and 23 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were David Graves,
Tommy Graves, Robert Graves, Joe
Graves, Larry Miller, Robert Shoate
and Sam Miller. Honorary pallbear-
ers were Douglas Bauman, Alex
Hardin, Tab Summers, Rube Deck-
er, J.R. Decker, Mick Dalchau, A.K.
Scott, Francis K. Scott, Sid Johnson,
John Rabb, Carlos Ashley, John
Mitchell and Milam Barnett.

Burial was at Lakeland Hills -
Memorial Park in Burnet County
following services on February 16.
1988, for Thomas Edwards, 88, of
Kingsland, at Kingsland Community
Church. The Rev. George Belford
officiated.
Mr. Edwards, who was born May 3,
1899, in St. Louis, Missouri, to
Thomas T. Edwards and the former
Minnie A. Rowley, died February 14.
He and Maude Siegenthalter were
married April 24, 1925, in St. Louis.
He was a Mason, a veteran of World
War II, a lifetime member of the
American Legion in McCamey,
where he was past master of Lodge
1256, and a past worthy patron of the
Eastern Star.
Besides his wife, Maude, of Kings-
land, he is survived by two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Emma Turpin in Kings-
land and Mrs. Marie Cogly of
Houston; three grandchildren and
five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Don Dwinell,
Skinnie Noff, Bill Shank, Phil
Weathers, Ed White and Lewell
Conter.
Arrangements were made by Wal-
drope-Hatfield Funeral Home.
Cordelia Dolan Norton, age 83, of
Llano, died February 20. 1988, in a
Llano hospital. She was born March
10, 1904, in Llano and was a
Catholic.

Hughes
Mrs. Phil (Ruby) Hughes, 65, of
Granite Shoals died February 9.
1988. She was born on June 28, 1922,
to Roscar Amos Hale and Thelma
Estelle Lane in Loraine, Texas. She
was formerly a Midland resident and
also of Ennis, where she was a legal
secretary with the Ennis Public
Schools before retiring to Granite
Shoals 12 years ago. She and her
husband, Phil, were married on July
1. 1960.
Funeral services were conducted
February 12 in the Clements-Wilcox
Funeral Home chapel with the Rev.
Jim Bates and Rev. J.D. Benson
officiating. Interment followed in the
Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of the
Women’s Missionary Union of the
First Baptist Church of Granite
Shoals, as well as the Rambling
Bungalow Traveling Club and the
Busy Bee Traveling Club.
She is survived by her husband,
Phil M. Hughes of Granite Shoals;
one son. Perry Wayman of San Jose,
California; one daughter, Phillis
Roberts of Buffalo Creek, Colorado;
four brothers, John Thomas Hale of
Midland, Leroy Hale of Llano. H.A.
(Peck) Hale of Midland, and F.B.
(Top) Hale, also of Midland; six
grandchildren and nine nieces and
nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may
be made to the First Baptist Church
of Granite Shoals benevolence fund.
