for the use of the County Clerk and
$425,000 for the remodeling of the
hospital,” Judge Miller said.
Commissioner Ross Bauman ex-
pressed the opinion that the county
was asking for a blank check and
needed more specific figures.
Judge Miller countered with “All
you are ever going to get is an
estimate. You have the plans and the
specifications already.”
Commissioner Leonard Grenwelge
was very much concerned about the
rest of the phases.
“If this is just Phase I, what about
Phases 2 and 3?" Grenwelge asked.
“Does this mean that when this is
finished, they will be back for more
bond issues?”
Miller finally asked the group.
“What do you want to do? We are
not making any progress."
Bauman recommended setting up a
meeting between the commissioners
and the hospital board to clear up
some “conflicting stories” that were
going around. The vote was unani-
mous to hold the meeting Friday at 9

snags over how much of the 117,000

present lease was adjusted so that it

While commissioners were pleased
to get this decision out of the way,
the funding amounts for the pro-

into yet another delay, much to the
dismay of Judge Miller, who urged
the commissioners to get on with the

pressure was needed, someone
would go to the city water pumping
station, located where the ice house
is now. More power to the pumps
would be supplied to boost the water
pressure. Sometimes the pressure
would be so high it would knock
wall-hung commode tanks off of the
walls of homes.
Later on in 1924, a new fire truck
was purchased to fight fires. This
1924 REO truck came with a pump
that could put out pressures at over
100 pounds per square inch, as well
as pump 250 gallons per minute.
This brought Llano a modernized fire
department. During the 1930s, the
fire trucks were kept in a building
located on East Main, where the
was built of hand-cut granite.

Several local people worked on this
building for seven dollars a week.
This building had room for four
trucks with a meeting room upstairs.
Living quarters were also upstairs. It
was finished in late 1941. Milam and
Armor Barnett lived over the fire
station from 1945 until 1975. It is
now used for city offices. In 1940, a
