Recent legislation signed by Pres-
ident Resgan will allow the Veterans
Administration to relax downpay-
ment requirements in the sale of
certain homes acquired by the VA
through foreclosure.
The Veterans’ Home Loan Program
Emergency Amendments provide
the VA with the authority to reduce
or waive the five percent downpay-
ment requirement on the purchase of
VA-owned properties when it is
determined necessary to market
these properties competitively. This
provision was effective February 29,
1988, the date the new bill was
signed. VA intends to use the
authority in areas of the country

The first annual picnic for the
members of the Flashbacks Band
was held last weekend at Black Rock
Park and the Red Barn. Members,
relatives and friends of the band

partaking of the delicious pot luck
dinner.
Members of the Flashbacks attend-
ing were Ken and Helen Carpenter,
Bob and Ruth Deal, Ruth Philp,
Doris Lloyd, Sissy Garst, Jeff
Johnston, Marge Jewett, Don Gas-
ton, John Landon, Yvonne Wallen,
Chet Pringle, Weldon McCutchin,
Firman Baye, Leland Schultz and
Pete Salinas. There were 49 attend-
ing, 17 band members and 32
guests. A great time was had by all
and everyone is looking forward to
next year’s picnic.

During the month of April the
Retired Senior Volunteer Program
(RSVP) provided 2,564 hours of
service to communities in Llano
County, according to Don McKee. If
you multiplied this number of hours
by the minimum wage, it would total
$8,589.40 that has been freely
donated by RSVP volunteers.
McKee invites others to share in
the “experience of a lifetime’’ and
join the RSVP. Give him a call at

is high.
The measure also corrected a
technical error in earlier legislation
where the amount of a veteran’s
prior use of "entitlement" or loan
guaranty benefits was subtracted
from the potential guaranty on a new
loan. Instead, prior use of a
veteran’s entitlement will now be
