turned off completely, should drouth
conditions exist. The final decision
would rest with the city.
“All we will be doing is using
water wasted over the top of the
dam,” Whitmore said. “I will put up
all of the capital, rebuild the turbine
and maintain it.”
The city went over the contract and
gave tentative approval to the deal.

Contingent upon the approval of
the LCRA and the acquiring of a
license to operate a hydro-electric
system at the Llano River Dam, the
Llano City Council indicated it would
be pleased to have the hydro unit
back in operation as long as it did not
cane any problems with water
supplies for the city.
Invited to appear before the council

offered to rebuild the entire system
at no cost to the city for the first
year’s profits, after which the city

Waco is the number one rated
baseball team in class 3AAA accord-
ing to the baseball rating polls with
an 18-0 record for 1988.
High school baseball coach Les
Lierman said that Llano was lucky to
have won the coin toss when coaches
and representatives met Monday.
“La Vega wanted to play in Belton,”
the coach said, “but we have had
such good luck in Austin, that’s
where we wanted to play.”

The most convenient route to
Westlake’s baseball complex is east
from Llano on Texas Hwy. 71 to Bee
Cave. Turn left on Bee Cave Road
(Hwy. 2244) and proceed under Loop
360, staying on 2244 until reaching
Westlake High Drive, turn right and
proceed around the high school
grounds to Camp Craft Dr., turn
right again and drive about one/-
fourth mile to the baseball field.
Allow about an hour and 20 minutes
to reach the game site.
It is now time to spray for pecan
nut casebearers. Casebearer eggs
have been found in Llano and
Kingsland and spraying should
be done immediately. Insecticides
that work well in controlling
pecan nut casebearer are zolone,
malathion, diazinon, or one of the
pyrethrins containing cyperme-
thrin.
Producers are encouraged to
mix either zinc sulfate or NZN
with the insecticide. Foliar zinc
sprays help trees to grow faster
and pecans to fill better. A
spreader-sticker can also be ad-
ded to the tree to enhance
coverage. Benlate or Du-Ter
fungicide can also be added to
control pecan scab on susceptible
varieties.

fuel prices are down since 1984, and
this has been a big help to the
