We all thank Chris and Juanita for

The city of Llano came out before
the dance began and gave the "key”

organization, held a blanket dance

part of their parks development. We
felt that all they had done especially

Editor’s Note: The following story
and letter have been taken from the
official newsletter, "Smoke Signals”
of the Texas Indian Hobbyists As-
sociation, which recently visited
Llano and which is now their home
base. Chamber of commerce mana-
ger Jackie Hatfield passed on the
information and we think you will
enjoy reading about the impressions
of Llano on our visitors. Hopefully
you enjoyed their visit as much as
they did coming to Llano. — FT.
For all of you who missed the
dance at Llano, well, you missed
another great dance. The city and
county of Llano went of their way to
see to it that TIHA was welcome.
They had just finished a new
bathroom and shower facility which
has three huge showers in each side
and are fed by a new $900 hot water
system. The county was in the
process of finishing two showers for
each side in their bathroom facilities.
This is not counting the mowing and
landscape job, and the new water
system, and the new* electrical
hook-ups all along the road. The
local electric company went out of its
way to fix lights and install some
plugs.
Spread along the banks of the

all seemed to be enjoying themselves
thoroughly. They were having fun
doing what they love to do and what
they do well.

Herman Raesener, and Frances

teacher, was also a member of the

Dear members.
Our first dance in Llano was by all
accounts a big success. The camp-
ground was beautiful and the
weather held off until the dance was
over. Thanks to the friendly, hospit-
able people of Llano for making us
feel so welcome. At the restaurant on
Sunday after we had packed up
several local folks came up to us and
said how much they had enjoyed our
program and dance. The local paper
and radio station carried announce-
ments about the dance and the
courthouse billboard even welcomed
us. I think Llano will be a good home ,
for us because the local people are
interested in what we are doing and
they appreciate the economic impact
we have on their community. A
refreshing change for the better.
A new advertising campaign designed to en-
tice tourists to travel In Texes will be in-
troduced shortly in other states to convince
potential visitors that a trip to Texas is like
seeing a whole other country, only closer to
home.

research and development, but one
has to wonder how they can put a

many new and enjoyable tilings for
mankind, but there have also been
some major blunders from time to
time.

Have you considered getting into
the field of research? You know,

Coming through the mail this
week was an interesting story which
simply said, "$69 million in state
research grants awarded." That $60
million is a pretty impressive figure
and it will get a lot of people’s
attention to say the least. Now all
you have to have to a good cause. To
help you find one they sent along a
little more than 12 pages giving a
complete list of each research
program, how much money was to be
spent and who got the money.
Well, let’s try a few of these on for
size and then maybe you can think
up a few choice projects of your own.
