Wally and Mickey, our city main-
tenance team, will soon start training
for their annual marathon walk
unless some of our trained walkers
come to their assistance. It is almost
time to start mowing the rights-of-
way, but the first step is collecting
the cans, bottles, and trash discard-
ed by the uncaring few. Eighteen
miles of streets translate to 36 miles
of shoulders that need to be policed
before the mowers start shredding
paper and converting cans and
bottles to missiles.
Last year the walk-a-block cam-
paign helped by removing almost 20
garbage bags full of trash. A similar
effort this year would go a long way
toward saving the city both time and
money. The weather wasn’t kind to
our streets this year and we would
rather have the maintenance time
directed toward filling pot holes and
reinforcing shoulders. If you agree,
take a bag along when you start your
next walk.
Don’t forget the spring weather
also brings out the snakes — look
before you grab.

There will not be a meeting before
the show, so all members be sure
and go by the club and sign up to
work helping in the kitchen, being
hostess, etc. Also be sure to sign up
to bring cakes, pies, cookies or
sandwich filling with bread. We
make up the sandwiches as we go, so
they are always fresh.
There are lists at the club where
you can sign up for which you can
bring. There will be tour buses out of
Austin and we want plenty of food.
We will also serve sausage on a stick
and there will be a cold drink stand.
Easter is here and we have lots of
Easter items. Come take a look at all
we have to offer.
We are proud to welcome four new
members: Sonia Cagle Arvin, Imie

come in anytime we are open. Our
business meeting is the second.

treasurer Gene Harville and bene-

presented Wayne and Becky Mat-
thews of Kingsland EMS with a
check for $500 on March 24 at
Kingsland Steak House. The money
was gratefully accepted and will be
applied to the EMS project toward
purchase of a “Thumper” CPR unit
for use by the emergency team.
Contributions are being made to
the fund by organizations, churches,
individuals and business persons in
the area. "The first Thumper will be
purchased soon, probably before the
Bluebonnet Festival,” said Becky
Matthews. That is only a beginning
though as plans are to try to obtain
the funds to buy others. "The
