The newest of the Kingsland area
churches. United Methodist Church
at Hwy 29 and 1431 announces
Easter services. Our Maundy Thurs-
day service will be a “come and go”
Communion Service from 6:30 to
7:30 p.m., March 31. Maundy
Thursday comes from the Latin word
"Mandaturm" which means com-
mand. It is celebrated on the
Thursday before Easter. Originally.
Maundy Thursday included a foot-
washing ceremony as described in
the Gospel of John. Traditionally it
has become part of the passion of
Easter and is highlighted through a
celebration of the Sacrament of Holy
Communion.
Easter morning will begin with a
Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. Be sure
to bring chairs or blankets to sit on
during this outdoor service of
worship. Other activities are church
school at 9:30 a.m. and worship at
10:45 a.m. Let’s celebrate together!
For the Maundy Thursday celebra-
tion before Easter Sunday, Kings-
land Community Church will present
"A Service of Shadows,” A Choral
Tenebrae Service by Lani Smith at
7:30 p.m. on March 31.
Coming from the Latin word
meaning “Shadows,” the ancient
Tenebrae depicts the last days of
Christ as man. The story is told in
scripture and song, with the exting-
uishing of candles and lights in the
sanctuary. A time of darkness is
followed by the return of light,
signifying the unextinguishable pre-
sence of Christ in this world.
Easter Sunday morning Sunday
school will be at 9:45 a.m. with two
worhsip services. One at 8:30 a.m.
and one at 10:45 a.m.
Calvary Hills Church will hold a 7
a.m. Sunrise Service on the church
