.. A record number of children are
participating in this summer’s read-
ing program at the Llano Library,
which began June 7 and will run
through July 26. At that time, the
children who have read their allotted
. number of books will be taken on the
Vanishing Texas River Cruise.
.Parents and other volunteers who
plan to accompany the children at
this time are asked to come by the
library and sign up.
. Festivities on opening day began
with a balloon ceremony. The library
staff wishes to thank Billie Jean
Kuykendall and Llano Florist for
providing the helium and helping to
inflate the balloons. Appreciation is
also extended to officer Donny
Stewart for presenting a program on
drug abuse.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland L. Hallmark
were honored by their daughter with
a 50th wedding anniversary recep-
tion on Sunday afternoon, June 26,
at the Church of Christ fellowship
hall in Llano.
The couple were married on June
22, 1938, by Minister Lynn Nobles
and have lived in Llano County most
of these 50 years.

Marble Falls, was united in marriage

V-cut back and puffed sleeves. The
dress extended to a chapel-length
train in the back. She wore an
elbow-length veil falling from a
frown of seed pearls, and carried a
bouquet of pink and white roses.
Patti Culler was the new Mrs.
Groves' maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Tracey Schlafer, Susan Rober-
son and Gena Schuessler. They wore
tea-length taffeta gowns of soft pinks
and blues.
Candlelighters were Shea Ussery,
Amanda Roberson and Chandler
Schuessler. Ringbearer was Chris-
topher Leget, a nephew of the
groom. Audrey Roberson, a niece of
the bride, was flower girl.

On June 14, Flag Day ceremonies
were held by Beth and Bob Cuthbert-
son. They supplied hand-outs for the
children, gave a program on the
history of our flag and a film of the
Constitution Day parade. The TV set
to view the parade was loaned by
Charlie’s store. VCR unit was
loaned by the Police Department.
Ralph Baber read "Old Glory” and
went over the pledge of allegiance
with the 140 children who attended.
On June 21, a karate demonstra-
tion was given by Bobby Bollier and
group of students from City Limits
Fitness Center. Participating in this
were J. R. Decker, Ricky Hawkins,
Kyle Hawkins, Clay Rushing, Bran-
don Anderson, Doug Anderson,
Megan Schuessler, Justin Ward,
Alan Alexander, Kyle Province,

The Better Homes Extension club
met in regular session June 21 in
I the home of Doris Inman. Peg
- Baerwolf was co-hostess. Fourteen
emembers and two guests were
present.
Joyce Foster was the instructor of
a ragpoint workshop. Oblong bread
I baskets were started by the
members.
A covered dish luncheon was
enjoyed by all. "Happy birthday”
was sung to June Brooks.
The business meeting was presid-
ed over by the president, June
Brooks. Peg Baerwolf gave a report
from the June 1 council meeting.
Lucile Larremore, Lois Gray and Kay
Crouser will be the delegate from
Llano County to go to the State
T.E.H.A. meeting in September that
will be held in Abilene. The October
Feast to be held on October 12 at the
American Legion Hall to raise
money for the Llano County Home-
makers council' was discussed.
Next meeting will be September
10 in the home of Dorothy Newman.
Marilyn Hale, county extension
agent, will present the program.

The Miss and Junior Highland
Lakes beauty contests will take place
on Friday, July 1, at Kingsland
Community Center at 7 p.m. One of
the judges will be Opal Seals of
Joshua, Texas, who is active in many
civic and public service organizations
in her community.
Otto reunion
The Otto reunion was held June 14
st the country home of Frank and
Marian Otto. Co-host and hostess
were August and June Otto.
The oldest family member was Mrs.
Amanda Otto Miner of Llaao, who on
June 14 celebrated her 92nd birth-
day.
The youngest member was Adam
Varvel of Hearne, Texas, 8 months
old.

Obed Evelin Ratliff Hallmark is
the daughter of Obed and Linnie
Moss Ratliff. Leland Leon Hallmark
is the son of Pierson and Ora Davis
Hallmark, all from Llano County.
The couple have one daughter,
Linnie Ora Hallmark, who is married
to Weldon Osbourn. They live near
Valley Spring. They have one
The engagement of Tina Whitmire
of Baird, Texas, to Randy B
Franklin, also of Baird, has been
announced. The wedding has been
set for July 23 at the First Baptist
Church in Clyde.
Miss Whitmire, a Baird High
School graduate, is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Gary Van Cleave of
Baird and Eugene Whitmire of
Clyde. The parents of Mr.Franklin,
a teacher/coach and a Llano High
School graduate, are Mr. and Mrs.
Randolph Franklin of Llano.

courthouse lawn. Judge Miller,
parents and grandparents were
among the audience. Also on June
21, Hollis Busse, wearing a "happy
coat,” read Japanese folk tales to the
150 children who attended the
session.
Future programs will include a trip
to the Llano Museum and a slide
show on new Llano County finds by
archaelogist Woody Woodrich from
LCRA.
This week’s focus table at the
library features the theme: Let’s
Tour Texas.
New juvenile books received re-
cently include “The Sign of the
Chrysanthemum” by Katherine
Paterson and “Season of Ponies” by
Zilpha K. Snyder. Adult books
include “The Predator’s Ball-How
the Junk Bond Machine Staked the
Corporate Raiders” by Connie Bruck
and a new biography, “Picasso,
Creator and Destroyer,” by Arianna
S. Huffington. A television series
based on this book will be shown in a
few months.

The public is invited to attend the
Llano County 4-H Fashion Show on
Thursday, June 30, at 3:30 p.m. in
the basement of the United Method-
ist Church in Llano. Four-H
members will model outfits they
made in 4-H clothing projects.
The 4-H members will be judged
earlier in the afternoon, with awards
to be presented following the fashion
show.
Having an appreciative audience
to admire the 4-h members’ accomp-
lishments will be encouraging to
them. They have worked very hard
to complete their garments, and they
will enjoy showing their work to
friends, family and others.
