Ben Wheeler, is one of the East
Texas State College football team
members who is eagerly looking
forward to next September 23.
That is the date of the first
football game to be played in the
college’s new $300,000 Memorial
Stadium which will be completed
this summer. The new concrete
structure, which will seat 15,000
people will be formally dedicated
on that date, the first home game
of the 1950 season.
More than one-half completed
now, the huge stadium is being
rushed for completion by Septem-
ber 1. Located on the new west
campus at East Texas State, it
will be formally dedicated to the
75 students of the college killed
in World War II.
Bermuda grass for the playing
turf, sown a few weeks ago, is
already growing and East Texas
State is assured of one of the
best playing fields in the state.
The field was hand sodded under
the direction of R. L. Frazer, hor-
ticulture instructor at the college.
