Best Way Serve
Frozen Fruit Is
Told by Agent
However you serve it—with
shortcake on ice cream or all
by itself in a sauce dish—froz-
en fruit tastes best if it’s thaw-
ed in its sealed container. It also
has better-color. Texture is best
if you leave a few ice crystals
in the fruit. Thus declares
county HD Agent Mrs. Claudia
McDonald.
“You can thaw frozen fruit
any of three ways—in the refri-
gerator, at room temperature, or
in a pan of cool water. How long
it takes depends on the method
you choose.”
According to Mrs. McDonald,
“a 1-pound package of fruit
packed in sirup will take 6 to
8 hours to thaw in a refrigera-
tor. You can shorten the time
to 2 to 4 hours if you leave the
package at room temperature
on your counter top. And for
hurry-up thawing—12 to 1 hour
—place the container in a pan
of cool water.
“One thing to remember,
though. Unsweetened fruit takes
a little longer to thaw than
either sirup or sugar-sweetened
fruit.”
