2 tbsp, butter
%2 cup syrup (Karo blue or
red label)
2 sqs. unsweetened chocolate,
melted
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups sifted confectioners
sugar
3/4 cup nonfat dry milk solids
Blend butter and karo syrup;
stir in chocolate and vanilla.
Combine sugar and milk solids.
Add to syrup mixture gradually;
stir, then knead until blended.
Form into rolls and cut into inch
pieces with knife or scissors, or
roll into balls. Makes about 11
lbs.

The Daffan-Latimer Chapter
of the United Daughters of the
Confederacy met Thursday af-
ternoon at the home of the chap-
ter president. Mrs. P. V. Mulkey,
to honor the memory of a belov-
.ed member, Ethel Lawson Jones
'Mrs. C. O.), who died March 3,
this year. Mrs. Mulkey paid tri-

Girl Scout Troop 286 was or-
ganized in October, 1964. At this
time we elected the following
officers: Donna Zmolik, treasur-
er; Marita Jo Novak, scribe, and
two patrol leaders, Rita Vik and
Debbie Novy. November 10, we
had our investiture. Last week
we went , on a hike and marsh-
mallow roast at which time we
had installation of our new pa-
trol leaders, Cynthia Valek and
Deborah Zabojnik by the fire.
We also learned to make a fire
and one patrol put on a panto-
mine on “Good Manners in the
Out-of-doors” and the other pa-
trol laid a trail. We are now
working on a Christmas project
and planning on a Christmas par-
ty. Our leader is Mrs. J. L. No-

The Salvation Army needs
clothing, stoves, bedding, and
furniture. Household discards
given to the Salvation Army,
support a vital program of re-
halibitation. Over 75 men are
currently seeking new hope in
life through the services of the
rehabilitation center. Salvage
and discards are the sole source
of support for the Men’s Re-
habilitation Center.

Anna Class Meets
In Groves Home
The Anna Class of Tabernacle
Baptist Church met for a
Christmas covered-dish dinner
at the home of Mrs. C. P. Groves.
A green cedar tree with red
and green lights and red bows
on the front porch of the Groves
home brightened the entrance
and inside a white fire tree trim-
med with green balls dominated
the living room’s festive decora-
tions which included green and
white holly on the tables and
other places of interest.
Turkey and all the trimmings
were served from the white lin-
en-laid dining table whose cen-
terpiece was an arrangement of
green and white holly and red
berries with long clusters of
green grapes extending from the
centerpiece down the table. The
quartet table, laid with hand em-
broidered Madeira linen cloths,
were centered with tiny Yule
trees, trimmed in red and silver
balls on white styrofoam bases.
The invocation was given by
the class teacher, Mrs. Tom
Wortman. Mrs. O. D. Wilhoite,
president, was in charge of the
business session. Miss Gertrude
Howard told the Christmas story
which was by Dale Evans, em-
phasizing that “it’s Christmas
every day if you love and give.”
Following the program gifts
were exchanged from the tree
by members. The class present-
ed Mrs. Wortman with a gift
and also Miss Howard,! the pro-
gram guest.
were present. Visitors of the
class for the occasion were Miss
Howard, Mrs. Kendall, Mrs. J.
V. Pool and Mrs. Rease S. Hut-
cheson of Austin, mother-in-law
of the hostess.

The Friendship Sunday School
Class of Anthony Drive Baptist
Church met Monday night in
the home of Mrs. Vallie Hobbs
for their Christmas party.
The meeting was opened in
prayer by Mrs. Henry Marvin.
A reading was given and gam-
es were played.
As a devotion each told what
Christmas meant to her and the
one she remembered most.
Gifts were exchanged.
Refreshments were served to
nine women and two children.
The dismissal prayer was by
Mrs. Quate Sibley.

The main parts of.the meting
were the receiving , by the mem-
bers, who had completed their
pledge training, the Ritual of
Jewels, and the new,pledges re-
ceived their Pledge Rituals.

on, Leroy Mitchell, Don Walker,
Jim Bob Wilson, Philip Willing-
ham and Mrs. Bobby Jones.
Those receiving the Pledge Rit-
uals were Mmes. W. B. Kinzie,
Jim Sanders, John Leim, E. L.
Glaspy Jr. and Miss Joy Little-
john.
Refreshments were served.
Those present were Mmes. Bak-
er, Clyde Booher, Bill Brasher,
Dixon, Harris, Mitchell, Frank

Church Dinner
The Faithful Workers Class of
Tabernacle Baptist Church met
at the home of Mrs. R. S. Hutche-
son, Munn Drive, for a turkey
dinner, Christmas devotional
period by Mrs. Dick Kendall and
gift exchange in front of a wood
burning fire. Festive Yule deco-
rations were used throughout
the home, the white tree being
decorated in red. Stockings hung
from the mantel.

the meeting to order. Rita

their Christmas is much like that

the Christmas Scriptures and

ports by Mrs. A. A. Roberts,
secretary-treasurer, were given.
The members decided to send
Christmas cards to shut-in mem-
bers and to sick absentees.
Mrs. Brookshire, program
chairman, read an interesting
story of the last Christmas in
the Confederate White House inh
Richmond, Va., by Mrs. Jeffer-
son Davis. It is now preserved in
a rare clipping from the New
York Sun World, written in
1896, and the clipping is now in
the Confederate Museum at
Richmond.
The president appointed a
nominating committee, Mrs. J.
W. Tolleson, Mrs. Walter Myers
and Mrs. Norris Lipscomb, to re-
port a list of nominees at the
January meeting at the home of
Mrs. Tolleson.
