COLORADO, July 17.—(Spl.)--
Mitchell countians are still trying
to determine the correct location
for the erection of a Texas Centen-
nial marker received in Colorado
early in May.
The monument commemorates
the heroism of a band of volunteers
who destroyed a Comanche Indian
village on the banks of the Colo-
rado river near what is now Colo-
rado on October 24. 1840. It was one
of the historical markers designated
for Mitchell county by the Texas
Centennial commission last year.
According to historical data fur-
nished with the marker, a band ol
marauding Comanche Indians had
a village on the river banks just
south of where Colorado now
stands Ninety Texans under leader-
ship of Colonel Henry Moore at-
tacked the village, killing 128 of
the Indians and capturing 34. They
