Reports show that in spite of res
peated warnings and constant prev
cautions,, cureless workmen who use
dynamite leave these blasting caps
tyingraround. where they can be
found by chitdren. The boys and
girls, and knowing that the caps are
filled with a powerful explosive,
hammer them, pick at. them . with
pins, throw ’them into bonfires, er
otherwise seek to explode them. I hi'
result is that they haw fingers and
hands blown off, sometimes eyes put
, out, and in othek ways are maimed
and' crippled, and rendered unfit for
useful work in later life.
Reports in hnd show that there
has been an increase in these blast-
ing cap accidents to children recent-
ly. The year, 1933, showed an in
crease of 151, over 1932; and the
first eight months of 1934 show a
substantial increase'-- 29′4 over the
xame period of 1933, and 100 over
the same period of 1932.
The campaign is being carried on
for the purpose of warning all chil-
dren' Concerning playing with blast-
ing caps. It is hoped that parent-
teacher associations and other
groups will also join in the move-
ment. C. M. Merritt, County Agent.
