Thi cup of Cotulla bloodshed seems
to be well nigh filled. When will the re-
turns from the other side come in?
Garland's pan-electrlo seems to have
panned out so well that be appears
judging from recent dispatches to be
booming an Arkansas coal company.
Col. Bill Morrison was a candidate
for being laid out horizontal by tbe Illi-
nois legislature and he got there on his
back laid out flat.
Thk Austin Statesman joins tbe ranks
of the big majority of tbe Texas dallies.
It has a libel suit on its hands. Regula-
tion amount $2.5000.
There does appear to be some signs
that we are to have a eity election alter
*ll. Tbe candidates an-more modestand
not nearly so previous as they were In
the ides of October and November.
Conger the defeated candidate for re-
election to the United States senate
from Michigan will be pressed for one
of tbe five commiasionerships under tbe
inter-state commerce bill.
The west feels happy. John L. Sulli-
van of Boston tbe hitherto invincible
got a good stomach full of gruel at tbe
hands of Cardifl in Minneapolis on
Tuesday night. B >ston is mourning for
John and John mourns for himself.
The charge that tbe democratic party
killed John Roach is not true; but It is
true that Jobu Rua< h was treated un-
generously unjustly and unkindly by
tbe democratic administration and that
tbe rasping be received did not allay the
irritation ot tbe cancer from which be
suite red and died.
The anxiety of ’be Knights of Labor
and Alliance organizations to dabble
in politics is uot so marked as it was last
fall. In time they will coiue to learn
that tbe third party business does not
yield them tbe best political results.
The Austin journals do not appear to
put implicit faith in Dr. balms’ suit for
damages whereby he essays to patch up
tbe rent garments of bis manhood and
moral y. ills keeping sil nee for a
year under tbe terrible charges brought
against him is deemed a very poor proof
of bis Ihtiocence.
Thk soft-beaded clergy ot New York
are interceding in behalf of murderess
Druse who having killed her husband
boiled him and fed bis flesh to hogs.
They bad better exercise their holy of-
fice and prepare her for her hempen
exit which will not long be delayed if
Gov. Hill does bis duty.
Thk reduction of wool duties has de-
creased the wool produced 20.000 th 0
pounds and the flocks about 50u0000
head since the reduction went into
operation in 1883. More reduction more
decrease and yetsome economist states-
men would decrease tbe tarifi still
farther and others would abolish it
altogether.
Senator Coke says that the Texas
senatorsblp is like a feather in high air.
Coming down it gyrates this way and
that moved by every current of air no
one can tell just where it will reach
ground. All tbe same be Isof tbe opin-
ion that it will drop into tbe hand of
the present incumbent Maxey.
Texas democr-cy shows Its consis-
tency in not swallowing tbe World's
suggestion that tbe democracy should
make common cause with tbe Conk-
lingites and elect tbe curly-headed demi-
god to the United States s>nate. The
New York democracy are not likely to
take much stock io this worldly sugges-
tion.
Pkoverbial Philosophy Tupper gets
In his jubilee work and cuts out tbe
English poet laureate. Martin Farquhar
Tapper has just Issued bls ‘Jubilee of-
fering" with a preface. He was there
or thereabouts at Victoria’s coronation
and wrote an ode on that occasion; and
now nodoubt thinks noone his a better
right than be to celebrate tbe 60ib anni-
versary of that event. Tennyson will
have to play second violin this time.
Mexico finds considerable cash oir- ;
culating as tbe result of her mining
operations About a million a month
has been expended In that republic dur-
ing the past four months and tbe bust- |
mas seems to be no more than fairly |
begun. _
If the old saying of statesmen bolds
true that the more bills before tbe leg-
islature the more need of critical exami-
nation and close Sifting by the commit-
tees. then the committees of the Texas
legislature need to keep their eyes
peeled and all their senses keenly on the
alert.
There Is a most marked contrast be-
tween the utterances of the outgoing and
Incoming governors at Austin particu-
larly on questions of corporate righ(s
and monopolies. Whether the legisla-
ture most favors the views expressed in
the message of the late governor or
those set forth In the inaugural of the
new remains to be seen.
The attempt to nellllle the advantages
gained bv strl t ere during th» past rear
will avail nothing. Facts cannot be set
aside heesu-e they are unpalatable
Bt-l l es may or may not be approved as
a means of securing redress of griev-
ances. tint the outcome of strikes cannot
be falsified with any degree of consis-
tency merely to bolster an opinion.
The Spli s Van-Zandt marriage la ofl
The clerk will not issue the license and
the slier tt will not permit the ceremony
to proceed. Two very sensible conelu
lions. The young lady has gained a no-
toriety that will follow her like a ghoat
to her grave. For the Infatuation of
susceptible girlhood there may bean ex-
cuse oflered; for the course of her par-
ents there can be none.
Thk 'rusieea ofthe Peabody Institute
Baltimore are before th- Tenmssee leg-
islature with a petition for the payment
of the $3OO 000 state bonds bequeathed
the Baltimore institution by the generous
Peabody in 1869. Tennessee Is not pay-
ing the bonds that were thus held and
the legislature la presented with the
claim as one in equity. A strong effort
will be made to secure an order from
the legislature upon the treasury In the
shape ot a bill authorizing payment.
Jubtick Hurt's opinion in the case of
James Lacy hurts justice as adminis-
tered in the district court of this city.
The moral of the reversal Is—steal only
$2O 00 worth at a time. Take It little by
little as tbe fellow cut off tbe tall of his
dog so that the poor animal need not
sutler so much at once. Nothing like
trimming sails with tbe breezes of state
statutes.
Dallas Imagines herself away ahead
of all her competitors in the race for that
refrigerating establishment and puts
on airs accordingly. There is many a
slip between a cattle convention and the
establishment of a healthy meat refrig-
erating plant. Dallas may get there
but that will not prevent San Antonio
being the first city in tb® state to se-
cure the long considered and much need-
ed Industry.
Thk critics and defamers of Jatnes G
Blaine who imagine that Conkling's
elevation to tbe United States senate
would make it decidedly warm for
James G. may be very much ofl In these
calculations. It would militate against
Mr. Blaine’s nomination possibly but
could not but aid in bis election if nom-
inated. As a republican senator. Ros-
coe Conkling would not antagonize the
election of the nominee of tbe national
republican convention. That much Is
sure.
So long as goo money can be coined
by playing on the gullibility of the pub-
lic so long will quacks abound. Tbe
province of men In a very large degree
is to prey upon thel fellows If not in
some form then in another. It is only
of the more palpable forms of fraud and
skulduggery that government takes
notice and endeavors to suppress. The
only way to prevent your eye teeth
being cut by a sharper is to cut your
own eye teeth.
The customs officers who are expected
to look after the fish entries on our
coasts are exceedingly mixed over th-lr
Instruction-; in fact as much so as our
border officers on smuggling instruc-
tions. They read in one section that fl»h
fresh for immediate consumption are
free. Having fixed this fact in their
minds and memories they note that for-
eign caught fish fresh are to pay a tax
of fifty cents per hundred pounds. This
mixes up the fresh business with the
foreign caught and when the instruc-
tions concerning frozen fish are tangled
up with these the one looks so much
like both that the poor Inspectors cannot
for the life of them tell 'tother from
which.
Qukkn Vic seems to take a real de-
light io snubbing members of her own
family. The Colon-Campbell divorce
suit having ended her gracious majesty
has extended the hand of sympathy to
tbe wife thereby giving the Argyll fam-
ily one of whose eons Is her own son-
in-law a complete discomfiture at royal
hands. Not content with this tbe royal
game preserves which have not been
opened since Gillie Brown’s death are
now turned out for tbe benefit of tbe
father of the Battenburg baby though
her own royal son and the heir to tbe
English crown has never been permitted
to shoot over them Albert Edward and
Princess Louise must feel happy over
these distinguished marks of tbe dis-
approval of their Imperial mamma.
Thk Farmers' Alliances do not sppear
to meet with distinguished success in
attempting to secure low down bids
from merchants for groceries and sup-
plies and the journals of the order sug-
gest co-operalive stores as a remedy.
The real remedy will be found in buy-
ing for cash where tbe most goods can
be bought for the least money quality
0-n«ldered. Tbe present prices of provi-
sions and staples in dry goods clothing
and boose furnishing leave very little
margin for profits and tbe chances are
against any saving by alliances under
present prices if co-operative stores
were opened. Co operation In market-
Ing farm products oompressing cotton
I etc. is tbe oo operation that pays best.
Thk attempt to christianize the Chi-
nese Is a complete success wherever and
whenever John can make It pay- The
Mongolian has no conscience no sense
of religious obligation and considering
the truth only to be spoken for purposes
of gain geta away with tbe guileless
girls and female philanthropists every
time. The workers among them in large
cities are finding this out and efforts are
much relaxed accordingly. The answer
of one of these celestial nuisances to the
Newark lady who enquired after the ef-
fect of Sunday school teachings upon
John is In point. Coming on her errand
of Christianization she found John busy
over his tubs and very profuse in bls ex-
pressions of pleasure at what he saw
and learned In Sunday school. Pressing
her enquiry as to whether he did not
think It did him good “YiYi"csme
the animated answer "Heepe good
waste fol Ie whole congelation.” The
farce has gone so far that the sincere
souls who have honestly engaged In it
are letting up on it as a hopeless case.
The presence of John Chinaman in
America is productive of evil only evil
and that continually.
Thk Washington tariff tinkers who
are contemplating a reduction of our
sugar dutlea are respectfully referred to
France which reduces tbe bounty and
Increases the duty twenty per cent.

From a feeling of gratitude and a desire to

ment: I have great reason to betbankful
that I ever heard of B. B. 8. as I know what a
blessing it has been to me. I have suffered
with Bronchial Catarrh f< r a number of years.
Six months ago I was taken with a severe pain
In right ear which in a few days began to dis-
charge matter with terrible and almost un-
bearable palpitation and all sorts of noises in
my head. In ten days after the commence-
ment of discharge and pa n in my ear I began
to grow deaf and In six w eks I was so deaf
that I could not bear thunder.
1 was then compe led to use conversation
tube and It was often that 1 could not h»»ar
with the tube. I then commencing taking B.
B. B and th- running of my ear ceased run-
ning in five weeks and can n w hear without
the ।ube. My general health has improved

and appreciate the benefit 1 have received
from B B H (made In Atlanta Ga > with
gratitude to God and thankfulness to the Pro-

lowa State University says: “My deliberate judgment
it» that the oven of the Range as compared with others
is not only more equally heated in every part—front as
>vell as rear—but as a result of its superior ventilation
the food placed therein is better cooked while retain-
ing a sweeter flavor and a larger proportion of its best
juices. I find also thatthe consumption of fuel in this
hango ie much less than any other for same work."
