ART NOTES.
Mrs. Dr. Hahn surprised the ladles of
the committee last evening most agree-
ably by presenting each of them with a
satin badge bearing tbe names of the
committee and a fine sliver pin of deli-
cate filigree work with which to fasten
tbe badges to tbe corsage. It was a del-
icate courtesy that was fully appreci-
ated.
The judges were unanimously of tbe
opinion that tbe ideal bead presented
by Mis Dodge was very superior and
would hardly believe that it was the
work of an amateur. A* it was not
marked for competition by some over-
sight no prize was awarded.
Mrs. E B. Chandler’s work in china
was much admired and some of her
original designs were most exquisite.
As secretary of tbe club this lady has
been of incalculable value in tbe work of
this exhibit. Tbe president told a Light
representative this morning that she
was the moat efficient secretary she had
ever worked with.
Mrs. Amanda J. Dlguowity’s work
was universally spoken of as a most
wonderful execution for a lady who has
almost reached tbe measure of her three
score and ten.
Tbe ladies said that Sam Maverick
was better posted in needle work than
many of themselves and found bl* criti-
cism of real value.
Prof. Onderdonk’s pictures were tbe
observed of all observes. His fish w< re
good enough to eat. He baa put bl*

That's Just It
The Galveston News wisely observes:
“There are some who lose no opportu-
nity to bemoan the activity of tbe press
in gathering personal items. If they
would think of tbe aid wbicb reporters
render to justice a milder judgment
might be passed upon an activity wbicb
baa come to increase not disappear.
The trivalities oi tbe press will give
place to more valuable matter as fast as
public intelligence advances its stan-
dards of interest from mere curiosity to
thirst for more useful knowledge.”
