To a Beauty.
BY C H CRANDALL.
When we pass by a flower on our way
Does it matter at all if we say
That it’s winsome and fair
And it perfumes the air
And it’s beauty enriches the day *
No a rose is a rose all the same.
Though we give it our praise or our blame
For it’s charm is complete.
And it lives to be sweet
And so ’tis with her that I name.
How forgetful was Fame not to tell us
That a boon in her coming befell us ;
How her exquisite face
Was forgot in her grace
1 low her violin-like voice could so quell us ?
So a wisn and a blessing I send her
May the angels and fairies attend her
And turn every dart
As she journeys apart
With her beauty alone to defend her.
