An excursion from the north and east

Unheard of Surrender.
This morning U. S. Marshal Rankin
was astonished beyond measure when a
man named Thomas Jackson entered
his office and told him he had heard
there was a warrant out for his arrest
on a charge of being one of the Flatonia
train robbers. He was Informed there
was a paper out in the hands of a depu-
ty for that purpose. “Well I want to
surrender” said Jackson and he was
arrested. He is from Bandera and is
really charged with being a partner In
the now famous train robbery at Fla-
tonia.
There are various deductions to be
placed on this unheard of action of Jack-
son. but the most plausible of these
would appear to be that if Jackson is a
train robber he desires to prejudice the
case in his favor.

An Awkward Mistake.
One Young aG. A. R. man who had
been to the encampment at St. Louis

He put them in the pocket of his light

Worth. When be flshed the present
from bis pocket on meeting his lady
friend and she had thanked him cor-
dially she opened the package and be-
hold a box of seidlitz powders came In
view. The little mistake almost caused
an estrangement between them.

We Are Ready.
As will be seen on inspection the
house of 8. Mayer is stocked full of an
elegant array of fashionable dress goods
In all the latest tints designs and fan-
cies. Mr. and Mrs. Mayer while In the
east let ne chance escape them to pro-
cure the best and choicest dress goods.
Counters and shelves show their efforts
and tastea were more than usually cred-
itable. At the ume time though ex-
pecting to realize quickly on their large
purchases they were not slow In appre-
ciating the stringency of the times and
therefore they "screwed” down prices
far below what would be a fair value for
the goods. Look at their all wool 44-
inch Scotch tweeds 62c a yard; all wool
double width serge 37c a yard; double
width French diagonals all wool 48c
per yard. And when you are In town
call on 8. Mayer and see the fine effects
In velvet combinations snd special dress
patterns and if you want anything he
will sell it to you right.
Fall and Winter.
We now bring to the notice of the
public that Mr. 8. Mayer is ready to
show the very choicest lines of light fall
wraps. For the most part they are very
short—on the style of a bodice mantle —
heavily beaded aud fiinshed ofl in a va-
riety of tine lace and bugle trimming.
Just the thing for moderate weather
while there is nothing adds so much to
full dress as one of these pretty gar-
ments. Prices range from $4 to $25 and
we consider them very reasonable one
and all. _
See Our Millinery.
Monday morning Mrs. 8. Mayer will
place upon exhibition a very choice se-
lection of patterns and eastern made
hats and bonnets. As usual Mrs Mayer
spent some weeks with the importers
and manufacturers in bargaining and
selecting her stock. The result cannot
be doubted. The lady has the reputa-
tion of long experience and good taste
and she will not disappoint her patrons
this season either in style or price. Mrs.
Mayer will probably announce her open-
ing day later on when all her stock
is in. _
3000 Handkerchiefs.
During the past week there was work
and plenty of it at the store of 8. Mayer
in marking and arranging new goods.
And among others over 3000 dlflerent
kinds of slightly damaged handker-
chiefs which will be sold at less than
half price.
