as tie said for the purpose of putting the
board on record. lUe mayor was in
favor ot the action but wanted to know
where the money was to come from.
Alderman Schreiner thought Ihe only
way out of the difficulty was to make an
additional tax of leu cents on the hun-

Important to Teachers.
An important order of the school
board passed at yesterday’s meeting
was omitted bv the Express In its re-
port but whether intentionally or not
we can't say. It was ordered by the
hoard that hereafter school teachers or
principals cannot sell any slates pen-
cils paper books or other supplies to
the pupils whether they reap a profit
from such commerce or not.
This action came up on account of in-
formation furnished Hie school board
that such practices had Deen allowed
and while they did not seek further for
information concerning it. this order
was passed to prevent its possible re-
currence.
In regard to the complaint about
some school room* being poorly heated
the mayor explained that it occurred be-
cause he could not get a supply of coal
at the time.

and Is an imitation of Raymond’s but
does not approach it by any means. He
was well received by a good audience
and his humorous songs were especially
appreciated The "Doctor Floss” of
Beverly W. Turner was fine and the
"Mr. Merrick” of Sheridan Tupper was
also well carried out. “Maria the
housekeeper” was truthfully portrayed
by Miss Kate Singleton and the
“Julie Merrick” of Miss Helen Windsor
and “Emma Floss” of Miss Ida Ward
were average. “ The Doctor” has little
to commend it as a play having scarcely
any plot and depends entirely on what
tbe actors can bring out of the different
parts. Tonight "The Doctor” will be
repeated.
