Further accounts of the killing of
Brant Cornett alias Captain Dick

was leaving when Allee confronted him
with a cocked revolver and said: “Con-
sider yourself under si est and throw
up your hands.” “I’ll be d If 1 do”
replied Cornett and made for bls pistol.
Both men then shot at each other sev-
eral times. Allee was injured
but be bad a close call for

the vaudeville stage.
Mr. John Marlon’s sentimertal songs
were very good.
Mr John Burke as the dude in ‘ Mis-
baps" was funny.
Haley and Flynn are the acknowledg-

NotSoßad After All.
On Saturday night there was some ex-
citement when a number of armed men
passed up Houston street led by two
policemen and followed by a deputy
sheriff. Some thought they were bri-
gands train robbers or some other des-
peradoes but they were not. It was
only the actors in the mining camp
scene at the Turner masquerade who
bad taken the precaution of getting le-
gal protection to prevent tbeir being ar-
rested for carrying concealed weapons
or being mobbed by an outraged public.

Pleasure.
The long locked for entertainment
and bop by the Knights of Pythias

ball last night and the attendance was
so large that ere the eniertalnment
began every seat In the spacious hall
was filled with the best of San Anto-

reDl's orchestra began the opening
overture after which the curtain rose
and Judge C. A Kellar. V. U- delivered
a few remarks on the Pythian order and
Its object*.
Judge Kellar was followed by that ac-
complished young musician Miss
Zulema Garcia. In a well executed piano
solo. Miss Garcia was succeeded by
Miss Lulu McAllister In a charming
solo “The Bend of the River” and
received as great appelause as did the
charming pianlste before her.
Messrs. C. Boyle and Ed. Hamilton.ln a
banjo and mandolin duet also came
In lor a share of the applause which
however was not liberally bestowed
until Mrs. Annie Katzenberger sang her
solo "The Walting Heart.” Miss Jessie
Bell delivered a charming recitation
which whs followed by a comic duet
"Emily and John” by Mrs. Fannie Har-
rison and Mr. W. G. Tobin.
The concert part of the programme
was concluded by a violin solo by Miss
Zulema Garcia who was as i jrfectly at
home in her execution on this difficult
instrument as with the pianoforte.
An intermission of ten minutes en-
sued which was ended by the produc-
tion of the farce “Lodge Secrets Given
Away.” This was Indeed laughable the
canaldate Mr. Michael Gllbooly the
Irishman being taken In tine style both
in brogue and action by Mr. T. A. Con-
ner. The secrets of the lodge were
“given away” In line style the follow-
ing members taking pari:

were served in the ante-rooms the fruit
and candy stand being attended by Mrs.
C. L. Sauer and Miss Sauer; the punch

be added to after Lent by a second
entertainment which will bo made
quite as enjoyable as the very success-
ful one of last night.
The Doctor's Valentine.
Dr. Lindner at noon today sat In his
office busy at the bonks of the Interna-
tional Building ami Loan Association
trying to see bow be could secure the
members 1930 per cent on their invest-
ment when a demure little boy entered
and banded him a package labelled
“Dynamite Dr. Lindner ” After un-
wrapping about twenty newspapers be
did uot find any dynamite but he found
what shocked him just as much. It was
a comic valentine containing the pic-
ture of an old woman having her mouth
enclosed by a padlock and Inscribed
BLABBER.
With tongue forever running.
And mouth upon the stretch
A certain mode to cure you
You'!! find upon the sketch;
A tightly fitting padlock
As everybody knows
Is just the thing that’s needed •
Your blabbing mouth to close.
And inside of the valentine were two
fresh doughnuts supposed to have been
bought at auction at 5 cents per 109.
The doctor ate the doughnuts aud is
laughing so heartily at the joke that his
neighbor Richter thinks that the thun-
der storm he prophesied a few years ago
is at last coming here.
