Every Household
Should have' Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral.
It saves thousands of lives annually
and is peculiarly efficacious in Croup
Whooping Cough and Sore Throat.
“After an extensive practice of nearly
one-third of a century Ayer’s Cherry
Pectoral is my cure for recent colds and
coughs. I prescribe it and believe it
to be the very best expectorant now
offered to the people.” —Dr. John C.
Levis Druggist West Bridge water Pa.
“ Some years ago Ayer’s Cherry Pec-
toral cured me of asthma after the best
medical skill had failed to give me re-
lief. A few weeks since being again a
little troubled with the disease I was
promptly
Relieved By
the same remedy. I gladly offer this
testimonv for the benefit of all similarly
afflicted.’’—F. H. Hassler Editor Arffun
Table Rock Nebr.
“For children afflicted with colds
coughs sore throat or croup I do not
know of any remedy which will give
more speedy relief than Ayer’s Cherry
Pectoral. I have found it also invalu-
able in cases of whooping cough.” —
Ann Lovejoy 1251 Washington street

“Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral has proved
remarkably effective in croup and is
invaluable as a family medicine.” —

EDITORIAL BREVITIES.
The Waco Examiner reverses its col-
umn rules and goes into mourning but
as its mourning columns embrace two
editorials one on the German emperor
deceased and the other on Mills’ tariff a
republican protectionist is left in doubt
as to whom the mourning emblem is
dedicated. Mills’ tariff scheme will no
donbt cause most mourning in the demo-
cratic ranks.
The Waxahachie Enterprise having
waded into Clark’s political aspirations’’
the Waco Examiner rises to defend the
chairman of the democratic committee
as follows;
“Clark’s political aspirations are to
save the democratic party from prohibi-
tion heretics and namby pamby fence
straddlers. His personal ambition is to
stand at the bead of his profession he
will succeed in botb. But no office bol-
der need have any fears of bis trying to
snatch the senatorial toga; he don’t want
it. If the Examiner has turned aside to
defend Clark. It was not because be is
oar choice for any office but because we
de not propose to stand quietly and see
the men who have cone to the front and
saved the party knifed by the prohibi-
tion party.”
The tight is on in dead earnest and the
democracy of Texas will tind abundant
opportunity to wool each other over
prohibition and tariff.
The Paris news refers to the recen 1
action of the commissioner’s court of
that county in ordering the public
square enclosed set out with trees grass
plats walks and fountains and says:
“The interests of the city and county
are mutual and reciprocal. Whatever
adds to the prosperity of Paris adds to
the prosperity’ of the county and what-
ever advances the county adds to the
prosperity of the city. If this park is
made as contemplated with a hand-
some iron fence shade trees grassplats
benches founts and graveled walks it
will be a place of pleasant resort for all
and will adorn the city and render it
more healthful.”
Why in the name of the sun moon
and stars could not such sentiments have
prevailed in this city and our public
park been preserved from desecration at
the bands of municipal incompetency?
Let San Antonio read this from the
Dallas Times Herald—one of the few
items that paper publishes to which no
exception can be taken:
“There are many men in Dallas who
toss on their pillows and moan out ‘will
there never be a time In the history of
the city when the eternal and ever pres-
ent man with the subscription list for
public enterprises will be no more?’ The
cliy is a corporation in which every citi-
zen bolds stock. That stock must be de-
veloped or increased in value and every
stockholder must do bis part. The sub-
scription man is alive active and
healthy. He will be here for many years
and be as others will keep his eye on
the man who does not touch the rope.”
Their Business Booming.
Probably no one thing has caused such a
general revival of trade at A. Driess’ drug
store as their giving away to their customer.
Of so many free trial bottles of Dr. King s
New Discovery for Consumption. Their trade
is simply enormous in this very valuable arti-
cle from the fact that it always cures and
never disappoints. Courhs colds asthma
bronchitis croup and all throat and lung dis-
eases quickly cured. You ean test it before
buying by getting a trial bottle free large size
fl. Every bottle warranted. (3)-912-ly
' Petition for Train to Boerne.
A petition is being circulated signed
numerously by our principal merchants
and business men to run excursion
trains to and from Boerne on Sundays.
It is undoubtedly a move in the right
direction and appears to be very popular
with the masses. The managers of the
Aransas Pass road have so far proved to
b« accommodating to the public In gen-
eral and no doubt will comply with the
request of the petitioners.

THE CALCULUS OF PROBABILITY.
HOW TO BECKON CHANCES.
The basis of calculation between cause
and chance is to be reckoned so far as
mathematics can figure out a result upon
data like the following: The rules being
of course the recognized mathematical
ones that the chance of the concurrence of
two independent events is the product of
their separate probabilities. We know
there is more or less frequency of recur-
rence than a fixed average; then for or
against the probability there is some
cause at work. The chance of one or the
other of two phenomena occurring when
two cannot occur is the sum of their
different probabilities. For instance: “Iu
the fall of 1880” says Mr. J. W. Ames
Fairmont Neb May 27 1887 “my wife
suffered intensely with what the doctors
adled sciatic rheumatism and was help-
less. Tried everything to no purpose.
She wanted to try St. Jacobs Oil but the
doctors said ‘no’ but I got it tried it and
it stopped the pain. She improved and
in a short time she had no use for crutches.
No return of pain in seven years.” Mr.
W. W. Hall Adams Express Co. Brook-
lyn N. Y. was cured of sciatic rheuma-
tism by St. Jacobs Oil and writes under
date of May 51887: “I am still of the
same opinion of its curative qualities for
sciatic rheumatism.”
The probability of St. Jacobs Oil coring
every time is reckoned upon known facts.
Out of the twenty million bottles sold
not one in ten thousand ever fails to Re-
lieve all ailments for which it is a specific
the chance against the probability is A
slight there must be some cause and th
cause is found to be that it is not properh
applied or not taken in time. The chance
are so overwhelmingly in its favor that th'
marvelous cures wrought by it are th'
offset to the few eases wherein it fails
and are proofs that where properly usei
it will cure and never fails.
